Summary: I've never been to The Black Dog...
Review: This cookbook's not just for Vineyard groupies! The Black Dog restaurant is on an island, so expect lots of recipes for seafood and fish. There are pictures... and lots of 'em, so you'll be able to see what you're making. I've made the Grilled Butterflied Leg of Lamb, Crunchy Pecan Chicken with Lemon Ginger Sauce, and Sesame Crusted Salmon Fillet... all were easy, delightfully satisfying, and filled with flavor!

Review: We spend a week each summer on Cape Cod. The rule of thumb? We don't eat out. Three families stay in a "mansion", thanks to the generosity of one of my brothers-in-law. Each morning at the Cape, each family goes its own way and enjoys all that the Cape has to offer. Each evening, our own Iron Chef leads us in a culinary adventure that would rival any four or five star local restaurant. Leaving the Cape is a melancoly moment, we leave good friends and good food.

Last year the Iron Chef and his family sent us the "Black Dog Cookbook" for Christmas. Wow, what a gift!

Now, we revisit Martha's Vineyard and the Cape year round. The recipes are wonderful and uncomplicated. Which is important, without the Iron Chef, we would be lost. Their meat rub is wonderful. The lemon basil chicken gets rave reviews from the guests we entertain here in Seattle. An the sirloin tips with aeoli sauce really impressed my wife's best friend.

A great gift for yourself or a good friend. Bon Apetit!!!

Summary: Breakfast Heaven!
Review: Well worth the price for the breakfast section alone! I've owned this book a week, and my family is working it's way through the breakfast section - we haven't even started on the rest of the book yet. Not only are these delicious, but really quick to put together. It's not at all necessary to save for the weekends, we've made two of the recipes for weekday-6 am-not awake enough for complicated recipes mornings. Try it, you'll like it.

Summary: Not like the restaraunt
Review: When I saw this cookbook I said,"Great, now I can enjoy Black Dog food without enduring the famously long wait and arrogant attitude." Boy, was I wrong. The authors seem to be so involved in self promotion that it's a wonder they have any time to cook! The recipes are not what I eat at the Black Dog on the Vineyard. There is not even any mention of the brand of pancake mix I see the breakfast chefs mixing up on Sunday mornings through the open doorway of the busy, filthy kitchen. The recipes changed a lot in translation from high volume to home sized. I would probably like this book better if it were what is presents itself as, Black Dog Recipes. The restaraunt on the Vineyard prides itself in it's "daily changing menu" This book contains some excellent recipes hidden in the fluff and almost unbearable ramblings of its overly self aware authors.
