Summary: BEST DIET EVER
Review: As a big fan and visitor of New Orleans, I jumped for joy when I saw the Brennans had written a low carb cookbook. About 80% of the recipes in this book are sure-fire successes -- they're easy to make, bursting with restaurant quality flavor, and most are quite low in carbs. I'd have to even say this is the best of the four low carb cookbooks I own. But here are my problems with the book:
1. All the desserts use Sweet and Low, not Splenda. A dessert made with Sweet and Low is more like a punishment than a treat -- sorry, Brennans.

2. A good editor could have made the book so much better by eliminating phrases like "bake until soft" by replacing it with "bake for ____ minutes." There are lots of little sloppy lapses like this throughout the book. There are also recipes where ingredients will be mentioned in the steps of the recipe that aren't listed in the ingredient list -- so you have no idea how much to use or even if it's a typo.

3. The Brennans are not health professionals and should really spare the diet advice and just give us more recipes. Anybody cooking with this book has undoubtedly done his or her homework on the low carb lifestyle and doesn't need a couple of gourmands instructing them on how to eat to be healthy.

I wish the Brennans would put out a second edition of this book and fix the errors in it. It has the potential to be a superb book! I do recommend it now -- heartily -- but think it could be so much better than it is.

Summary: An Easy-to-Understand Diet Book with Wonderful Recipes
Review: Finally, an easy-to-understand diet book with many wonderful recipes! The Brennans' PLAY YOUR CARBS RIGHT! has given me new incentive to continue the low carb plan and I have been successful. While the review by Ms. Terry recommends the book, her criticisms are misleading. First, this book IS a diet book with a formula for weight loss, not merely a cookbook. The book explains in simple terms how to change one's eating habits for a healthier life. Happily, it contains many creative recipes, too. Second, Splenda (which Ms.Terry prefers)contains maltodextrin, which(as bad as sugar)is indeed too high on the glycemic list for diabetics. The Brennans know what they are writing about. Three, I've been using PLAY YOUR CARBS RIGHT! for several weeks and, while not a gourmet cook, I have not had any problems understanding the recipes. I refer readers to Top 500 Reviewer, Ms. Mellot's assessment of the book, which is much more comprehensive and on target.

Summary: Dieting Made Easy and Delicious!!!
Review: I loved this approach to eating right! It is much easier to follow in real life than other diets, because it promotes a lifestyle change that is attainable for the average person. I find that with extremely strict diets such as Atkins' even the slightest deviation is never mentioned and that leads to dieter's guilt, which can change one "lapse" into a total failure of the program. I liked "Play Your Carbs Right!" because it acknowledges that we all have our weak moments, but that is to be expected on a limited basis and does not mean a failure in one's efforts to become a healthier person. Finally a plan that anyone can truly follow!

Summary: Hitting the Jackpot!
Review: I'm an example of every reason to change one's lifestyle of eating in a city filled with opportunities to eat sinfully: high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and, yes, overweight. Two years ago, after a stent implant and being placed on nutritionist-approved no salt, no sugar, low-fat diets (each contradicting the other in some way), I discovered the Brennans' first two books of simple and satisfying weight loss for life. PLAY YOUR CARBS RIGHT! has dealt yet another helping hand to acquiring and maintaining a healthy, more-than-satifying lifestyle. I've lost over 20 pounds. The most difficult part for me is maintaining an exercise routine in order to keep up with my one-year-old grandson and preparing for another grandson on the way. I thought working with 10 pound weights would be sufficient. Gosh, I've only just begun! I have incentive to eat well and exercise more, thanks to the Brennans and my grandchildren ... and, to no surprise, am enjoying every bite and every mile!

Summary: Dieting Made Easy and Delicious!!!
Review: My wife and I are avid fans of the Brennans' other diet cookbooks, Sugar Bust For Life! Parts I. and II. However, I, with little self-restraint, found myself eating Sugarbuster friendly, but eating too much. I was ecstatic to hear about the Brennans' new book, Play Your Carbs Right! The concept was exactly what I was looking for. A diet that helps big eaters, like myself, enjoy good food, using a simple and realistic daily carb intake formula. I had no doubt that the recipes the Brennans offered would be as delicious as those in their previous books - and to top it all off - for each recipe, the Brennans have done all of the carb counting for you!

Summary: Weight loss made simple!
Review: The book "Play Your Carbs Right!" by the Brennan's is an easy plan to help you get skinny and enjoy yourself in the process!

Recent studies have shown that many Americans have "dieted" themselves into obesity and poor health. By eating low fat we have filled our food with chemicals and sugar that create havoc in our bodies. By counting calories we have slowed our metabolism and can't maintain any weight loss.
The key according to the Brennan's is the amount of carbohydrates you consume. A diet rich in protein with moderate amounts of carbs added will trigger satisfaction and help curb temptation.

Eating a lower carb diet is not new. There are a number of books on the market that espouse the low carb lifestyle. However, many of them are so scientific they are hard to understand. Others lay out plans that have you severely restrict carbs from your diet. Strict low carb diets are hard to stay with over the long haul.

That's where the Brennan's book differs. Their book, "Play Your Carbs Right" offers a kind, gentle, low carb eating plan that you can commit to for life!

I first learned about the Brennan's when I came across the books "Sugar Bust For Life! with the Brennans" and "Sugar Bust for Life! with the Brennans Part II" at a book store. I love the books!
They are chocka'block with great recipes, wine lists, tips and more on following a low sugar, healthy diet. So when I learned they had recently released another book, "Play Your Carbs Right", I decided to pick up a copy.

As I read through the book something "clicked" for me. Over the past years I have read a number of different diet books that teach the low carb lifestyle. (I had already tried and failed at calorie counting and eating low fat) Despite trying some of the plans I couldn't stick to them. Either too complicated, too strict, or just plain boring. But "Play Your Carbs Right!" spelled out in simple terms what I had to do to accomplish my weight loss goal. AND IN AN ENJOYABLE WAY THAT I COULD STICK TO FOR LIFE!

It absolutely simplifies low carb dieting. It explains in easy terms why low carb dieting is an effective weight loss method. It teaches you how to figure out your personal carb intake to lose and maintain your weight. It lists daily menus for several weeks, snack ideas, and a handy mini carb counter. I started losing right away!

The book also includes a ton of delicious low carb recipes.
The Brennan's own the well known Brennan's restaurant in New Orleans. The recipes in "Play Your Carbs Right" are based on their many years of working in the food industry. These are recipes for folks who love to eat and want delicious meals that satisfy.
Unfortunately many low carb diet books contain alot of awful dishes. (I hate to think of the times I have wasted food as low carb recipes I made came out inedible.)
The Brennan's book is an exception. I have tried a number of the recipes and they are great! There are a variety of recipes including: Appetizers, Sauces, Soups, Stocks, Salads, Salad Dressings, Mayonnaise, Omelettes, Frittatas and Quiches, Entrees, Side Dishes or Vegetarian's Fare, and Desserts and Dessert Beverages.
Some of my favorites include Classic Buffalo Wings, Asparagus Bisque, Green Bean Salad, Creamed Lemon Chicken with Asparagus, Ellen's Crabmeat Salad, Pecan Crust and Italian Shrimp.
The recipes are not only delicious but they are easy to make and call for ingredients that are easy to find! Each recipe also includes carb counts per serving.

It's my personal belief that more and more folks will realize that weight loss does not have to involve starvation diets or over analyzing the nutrients you eat. The key is simply to be smart about carbs.
If you watch the carbs you eat, you can eat delicious, filling meals and snacks. By making smart carb choices you will lose weight quickly, without hunger and become healthier.

"Play Your Carbs Right!" is a great guide to help you get healthy and lose weight! You can accomplish your goals!
