Summary: Must own book for the sick of being sick!
Review: I have read a lot on health and fasting for many years. I have done many "healthy diets" and cleanses. It was not until I got the simple knowledge and motivation from this book that I was able to become the slim, healthy, vibrant women that I am today. I was healed of a chronic illness and motivated enough to go the long haul by this short simple to read book. I can not agree with the other reviews that say there is not enough information. There is enough motivation, and for 6.95 you should not be without this one. I own at least five books on fasting and 15 on raw foods and over 25 on health. This little book is my favorite. There is enough information to get you slim and heathly simply. When I finished my fast, many others followed me. Not because of my new slim size 4 (from a 14) but because of my vibrant health!

Summary: If you want your health back follow Dr. Airola's advice!!!
Review: I just finished a 10 day fast, with 4 day recovery strictly following Dr. Airola's program. I am a mother of 2 teenagers and just graduated from college as a re-entry student after 20 years away. My health had deteriorated due to time demands and unhealthful eating. On this fast I have not only lost 16 pounds, my skin has cleared up, my energy level is higher, I am walking 5-6 miles a day and my flexibility is better than when I was 20! My entire family is drinking fresh juice everyday and benefitting from a mom who has recovered her health after 7 years as a student!!! Dr. Airola gives simple and complete information for a very successful fasting experience.

Summary: I've patterned my life on the ideas in this book!
Review: I read this book 25 years ago and began fasting regularly. I am a forty five year old mother of 6 and am still healthy and slim. All the other books go on and on about how to cure disease with herbs, diet, exercise, or surgery but I have found that the body can heal itself. I recommend this one highly.

Summary: Excellent juice fasting resource
Review: I'm in my second 30-day juice fast using the directions outlined in Dr. Airola's book. This book totally dispels all myths of fasting and gives a thorough method to follow. I highly recommend it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: simple, effective health directions; juicer required.
Review: In this book, a distinguished and reputable author lays out directions for a longer life through fasting. Have you heard the reports of worms that were kept alive several times longer than their expected lifespans? Fasting doesn't offer the same quantum results, but Airola's directions for fasting can be classified in the puts-more-life-in-your-years type category as well as the puts-more-years-in-your-life category. The body never gets a chance to heal itself if it is constantly digesting food. Stop digesting, and start on long neglected internal healing jobs the body has been forced to put off. You will peel years slowly off of a prematurely aged body. -Tom McElheney, Sacramento CA

Summary: Feeling Real Good
Review: Thanks to Dr.Airola's book I feel real good. I am a mother of 5 in my forty's and I just got heavier and heavier every year, and growing out of size 18. This year at work we had a wellness challenge. I entered with my team and decided I would follow the guidelines in this book. I have been on the fast for almost three weeks now and have dropped 20 lbs and two dress sizes. I walk everyday on my breaks and lunch in the gym at work. I don't even care if I win the challenge because I feel great! I cut my hair and colored the gray and am getting compliments everyday. I plan to do a four week fast, but please, newcomers, be careful, I have fasted before, but never this long.Remember to break your fast very carefully or you'll ruin the whole thing!

Summary: It actually motivates me to close my mouth
Review: This book touts the many health benefits of juice fasting, not just weight loss. I found it fascinating and am about to embark on my first fasting experience because of it.

Review: This copyright for this book is 1971, which means that it was written back in the 60's at least. It is in dire need of an update.

Much of the "evidence" in this book is old anecdotes and does not take into account any medical research or scientific breakthrough in the last 30+ years. Some of the anecdtoal examples were irrelevant and unrealistic to me. Like the example of fast marches, where men would walk great distances without eating anything. Apparently, this had no negative impact on their health. Well, when did that happen? Right after WWII?

The book strongly advocates fasting as a means of weight loss and gives old examples of people, mainly women, losing weight with liquid diets. Well, in this day and age, don't we all recall the Oprah fiasco with liquid dieting? While fasting can assist in weight loss, it should not be the primary means. There are other ways of weight loss that are balanced and healthy and that teach you how to eat properly.

The book also advocates taking of enemas, almost daily when fasting. It just doesn't make it clear to me why this high level of enemas is necessary. The book also did not address that consuming high levels of certain juices can cause diarrhea. More alarming, it said that if enema equipment is used by more than one person, it should be cleaned thoroughly and wiped with alcohol. Whoa! In this day and age, it's known that bodily fluids transmit disease, so it would seem best NOT to share enema equipment. This book does not mention that.

Basically, there are other more current books that discuss juicing and fasting. Read some of those to get a balanced viewpoint and to find out what works for you.
