Rating: Summary: Good All Around Cookbook, Large and Heavy to Handle Review: I want to be careful not to insult this cookbook, but to explain why I don't care for it too much myself. It is *very* large. If you are looking for your first comprehensive cookbook of good, basic, practical, recipes, this is probably it. In my case, I was looking to supplement my Better Homes and Gardens and Fanny Farmer (among many others), so it was a needless addition. There are only a few recipes that stood out as truly unique to me.The recipes are good. The photos are great. The technique photos are great. The pages do lie flat and don't flip up and over in the midst of a recipe--very good. Do *not* buy this for a beginning cook. Then again, anyone who would consider an 832 page cookbook for a beginner is crazy. It isn't that the recipes are too hard. The sheer size is just too daunting for most beginning cooks. So, if you are looking for something different--this really isn't it. But if you simply want a good all around cookbook--maybe need to update from Mom's 1958 copy of Better Homes or Good Housekeeping? This will do nicely.
Rating: Summary: The All New Good Housekeeping Cookbook Review: I was shocked when I received this book. It was copywrited in the 1950's and yes - was the All New Good Housekeeping Cookbook at that time, but not the one I ordered. It was wrapped improperly and so was gravely damaged in transit. The pages were very yellow, had separate notes from the previous owner on little pieces of paper. I did request my money back and I am not sure the seller understood why. I felt it was a fraud.
Rating: Summary: excellent, comprehensive and easy Review: If you're looking for a general cookbook, this is by far the best I've used. I've tried several recipes and they've all been simple and delish! Everything from Low Fat Bannana Bread to sauces for barbecue ribs - mmmmmm!

Rating: Summary: if you're going to own one cookbook - this is it Review: my mother-in-law bought me this cookbook and i've been using it every week since then. out of all the cooking books i own, this is the one i come back to time and time again. this book is a great resource for anything you would ever want to cook. the recipes are fantastic, most importantly - delicious - and are all very easy. there's a photo for almost each recipe, so if you're like me and you like to see a photo to picture the dish, this is the book for you. i highly recommend this book as the first and only cookbook you may ever need.
Rating: Summary: Great Book for beginners and experienced cooks Review: The reason I chose this book to add to my cook book collection is because it contains a recipe for Baked Ziti. I have looked high and low, at the backs of all of the pasta packages and in dozens of cook books for this particular recipe. I then decided that the first book I found with BZ in it, I would purchase. So I did and was not disappointed - there are many great recipes in this book as well as tips from experienced cooks. I plan on sending this to my son - the younger generation likes pictures in heir cookbooks! Yes, it is a heavy book, but so what? I should point out that I learned to cook through Julia Child and I am accustomed to good food. This book looks not to disappoint.
Rating: Summary: Excellent All-Purpose Cookbook Review: This book has a wide variety of recipes, which are easy to follow. Everything I have made from it has turned out perfectly. The pictures are beautiful, and the extra tips that appear throughout are very helpful. It's easy to plan a whole menu from this book, from appetizers to dessert!
Rating: Summary: Simply the Best! Review: This cook book has it all -- vegetarian goodies, fabulous deserts and about 100 ways to cook chicken. So far, I have tried about 6 recipes from the book. All have turned out beautifully. (The Spinach Pie, in particular, is fantastic.) Here are a few notes: - This book contains several thousand recipes. If you only plan on buying *one* all-around cook book, this is an excellent choice. - In most cases, the book favors taste and ease (Think: Yummy Everyday Meals) over elegance (Think: Fancy, Sitdown Dinner for 25). - The instructions are descriptive and easy-to-follow. (I like that this cook book makes no assumptions about your cooking skills -- or lack thereof.) - The book is arranged with the main ingredient in mind. For example, say you just bought some spaghetti squash and you are unsure how to prepare it. Flip to the spaghetti squash pages in the vegetable section and you'll find detailed preparation instructions and approximately 2-3 recipes. (This is an excellent feature to use after you've made an impulse buy in the vegetable aisle of your local grocery store.) Enjoy!
