Review: I was in the Tsunami in Thailand. This isn't for sympathy, just perspective. I lost a collection of cookbooks that spanned over 30 years of selection. Now I'm living in Bangkok, ordering new books. Everyone knows you really only need three books: "The Joy of Cooking", "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" and James Beard's "American Cookery". Since they are very hard to find over here in Thailand, I elected to order them on-line from Amazon. While doing this, my attention was drawn to another cookbook by James Beard, "Soups". What a disappointment. "American Cookery", 877 pages with 19 pages of soup recipes was $15.72. "Soups" by James Beard and undoubtaby numerous staff was $7.16 for 63 pages and a whopping 35 recipes. The recipes are the usual and could have been written in an afternoon. What a rip-off. I love Amazon but when you can't feel, touch and open the book, sometimes you just don't know. Shame on James Beard for allowing this little hackneyed book to go to press with his name on it.
