Rating: Summary: A few words from the author... Review: Even though MealLeaniYumm! has a new subtitle, it still contains the same easy, delicious recipes found in the original hard-cover edition! I also updated the nutritional information to comply with recommendations from the Canadian Heart & Stroke Association, as well as current dietary guidelines from health professionals. The new subtitle provides a more accurate description of MealLeaniYumm! "800 Fast, Fabulous & Healthy Recipes for the Kosher (or not) Cook" If you don't have an idea of what Kosher cooking is all about, don't worry - good food is good food! The recipes use basic ingredients found in most kitchens. If you are Jewish, you'll be happy to know that my recipes follow Kosher guidelines. You'll find an excellent selection of quick, easy recipes for any time of the year, including Passover, which is always a challenge. People constantly tell me, "MealLeaniYumm is my new bible. I love the easy recipes, variations and helpful tips!" MealLeaniYumm! (pronounced meal.lean.ni.yum, as in millennium) is an excellent resource for cardiac patients, weight-watchers, diabetics, or anyone with weight and health concerns. It is highly recommended by dietitians and other health professionals. About the new binding:- Thanks to new technology, the specially designed softcover binding stays open when you are using it, so you won't have to put your flour cannister on top of the pages while cooking to keep the book open! (The same special layflat binding is the same one found on my cookbook "The Food Processor Bible.") I hope this answers your questions. If not, just email me at ... . My motto is "Food that's good for you should taste good!" Cook in good health. Norene Gilletz

Whether you have diabetes, are a cardiac patient, vegetarian or just plain love good food, this book offers recipes from family fare to bountiful buffets, perfect for today's time-challenged cook. Five out of five enthusiastic stars to this cookbook and its author, Norene Gilletz!
Rating: Summary: Variety is the spice of life... Review: I recently received this cookbook as a gift. I have two other Norene Gilletz cookbooks. Although I have 30-40 cookbooks on my shelf, I have to say that this cookbook is something special. The recipes are a combination of traditional Jewish with more modern, almost California-style tastes. What makes the book special is its presentation. Each recipe is not only explained very clearly, there is an descriptive introduction to each one (e.g. says it's a favorite of her students/caterees), there are a number of notes offering tips, or replacement items. Also, she tells us which recipe can be frozen. Most importantly, the tips allow a nonprofessional cook to gradually learn how to be flexible in her/his cooking abilities, experimenting with different forms of the same recipe.
Rating: Summary: As a dietitian/nutritionist, I recommend THIS cookbook! Review: Meal Lean i Yumm! is more than just another cookbook with the fat removed. It is a superb resource for health professionals who have been searching for the ultimate way to assist their clientèle in implementing both basic and advanced nutrition care recommendations. The solution to many nutritionally related diseases is with just the right combination of ingredients found in Norene's delicious contemporary and traditionally based recipes. Foods you may have been reluctant to try, such as tofu and quinoa, will now be part of your regular menu. This book has so much to offer: 1) it promotes a variety of ingredients that are easily available and affordable, 2) it provides scientifically sound information about food and nutrition and advocates moderation rather than radical means of reducing the fat content in our daily diet. A generous number of menu planning ideas compliments practically every recipe. This book is a blend of motivation and education with the support of 800 superb recipes. Norene's style makes it so easy to modify your eating habits and feel terrific.
Rating: Summary: Spectacular Review: Mealleaniyumm (pronounced similar to "millenium") is an excellent book on healthy eating habits for the kosher or not person! It is packed with 800 recipes, all delicious AND nutritious. Kosher foods are foods permitted to be eaten by the Jewish dietary law as described in the Bible. Forbidden foods include pork, wild game, horse, shellfish, fish without scales (such as eels), snakes, camels, hippos, bears and fermented drinks (with the exception of wine). Also, dairy products and meats must not come into contact. Therefore, if you are craving a turkey and cheddar sandwich, you won't be able to eat it! What I enjoyed most was that there was a nutritional analysis for each recipe. There were also tips on how to cut fat and add fiber to recipes. And if you are a vegetarian, fear not, there are numerous recipes for you in here as well! This cookbook contains recipes with easy-to-read instructions, as well as easy-to-find ingredients. There are tips on how to save time, a substitution guide, and recipe variations. She shows us how to read a label, and how to eat healthier. She suggests some pantry staples, an herb guide, ideas on how to cut fat and much more! Excellent recipes to try are: Oven-Roasted Vegetables, Terrific Tofu Stir-Fry, Luscious Lemon Squares, Jumble Berry Crisp, Skinny Potato Skins and Herbed Lemon Chicken Breasts with Mushrooms. This is a fabulous book. With more than 800 recipes, healthy eating tips, with easy-to-read instructions, this book is an excellent addition to anyone's library!
Rating: Summary: The Best All-Around Cookbook on my shelf Review: Norene Giletz has done an outstanding job with this cookbook. It is packed with well-written, thoroughly tested recipes, with enough variety to keep any home cook happy. Every recipe I have tried has been delicous, and easily prepared. The whole-wheat challah is a regular on our table. This is a perfect book for truly healthy cooking, without fad dieting. The recipes are for real people, and real cooks.
Rating: Summary: Now Serve Healthy Food to Rave Reviews! Review: This cookbook is invaluable to anyone who likes to cook healthy. 800 recipes that are easy to follow, nutritious AND tasty. You won't run out of ideas or resort to the same old tired broiled chicken and iceburg lettuce salad ever again! Did you know that using Prune Puree as a substitute for fat in baking adds lots of fibre? One cup equals 12 grams! While the recipes alone are worth the cost of the book, the accompanying nutritional information (for each recipe), the food substitutions, the food tips and hints, etc. make MealLeaniYummi a must for any kitchen! My first dish was "Mom's Rice Pudding". My husband LOVES Rice Pudding and I've always been too intimidated to attempt it. Norene's recipe was so simple, the directions so clear that I was sure of success and my husband pronounced the dessert "delicious"! I can't wait to try the Whole Wheat Pitas, the Tuna Caponata, the Bean, Barley & Sweet Potato Soup, Spinach Stuffed Mushrooms . . . Well, you get the idea!! This is one cookbook that destined to be food-splattered!
