Rating: Summary: BHG goes gourmet Review: The strong point of Better Homes and Gardens cookbooks has always been their clear, concise instructions and superb practicality. The drawback was often in the quality of the food. (Cheesy Franks and Tots Skillet Toss, anyone?) But, it's a new millennium and BHG is keeping up with the times! Gone are the canned soup, frozen broccoli & hot dog combos. In their place we have innovative new recipes embracing the scope of global foods available at most supermarkets these days. Almond Chicken with Yogurt Dipping Sauce is flavored with fresh cilantro and curry powder. Pasta with Green Beans and Goat Cheese features leeks and walnuts as well. This stuff is down right gourmet! The practicality, however, is as strong as ever. In keeping with the title, this book is as much a handbook for producing creative, delicious meals as it is a collection of recipes. Nearly every single page features a sidebar with definitions of unfamiliar terms, time saving tips or practical kitchen instruction. This is an extremely useful and inspirational guidebook to mealtime magic. Not to be missed: Portobello Mushroom & Roasted Garlic Soup and Cranberry-Chipotle Pork Chops.
