Summary: fun & adventure with food
Review: I bought this book after a friend cooked us a meal using the "recipes". Its fun to read and an adventure to try using his non-recipe style of cooking with unusual combinations of ingredients. My husband loved the results too.

Summary: Wonderful Food Memories
Review: I discovered my copy of The Blue Strawberry Cookbook which has been in my possession since 1978 and copyrighted in l976.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that James Haller and his restaurant are still giving culunary experiences, the likes of which I will never forget. It is as fabulous a book now as it was then and the pork chop recipes on p. 65 are superb. His style is casually elegant. I am so happy I will be able to revisit his recipes. I am also so impressed that James has written cookbooks for the seriously sick. Goood work.

Summary: The Blue Strawbery Cookbook : Cooking (Brilliantly
Review: I had this book about 7 years ago and it was one of my favorites. I foolishly donated it to a local library. What a mistake! I had no idea it was still in print and was ecstatic to find it here! This is a great book. No color pictures...or pictures at all, as I recall...but the text is amusing, inspiring, not at all intimidating. I just put it on my wishlist. If I don't get it for Mother's Day, I'm buying it myself!

Summary: Stunningly Simple, Extraordinary Food
Review: This cookbook was a total surprise to me. The style is witty and irreverent. The concept is terrific and the inspiration Chef Haller gives to cooks is brilliant! Just check out the suggestion for a chicken dinner for one -- stunningly simple and totally wonderful. This cookbook is a "must own" for anyone who cares about food. I highly recommend it. It's one of the best in my collection.

Summary: beautifully written, but not useful for this reader
Review: This cookbook, witty and wonderful as it is, will never be very useful to me. I loved the narrative; I don't think I've ever read a cookbook so intently. However, this book does not suit my needs as a cook. The base ingredients are butter, flour, and sour cream, for instance. As much as I would love to eat liqueur-spiked sour cream-based dishes every night, I cannot. I don't have time, and need a more modern, health-sensitive approach to cooking. The writer's assertion that anything fresh is healthful is not accurate, obviously. I also disagree with the writer that anything combination of ingredients that one comes up with is wonderful...maybe needing only the addition of salt (paraphrase).

In short, I guess this cookbook is too sophisticated for me. I consider myself a good cook with eclectic tastes, but apparently I'm not as sophisticated as all that.

I find this book entertaining and inspiring to read, but not useful for everyday application.
