Rating: Summary: a good find Review: A combination of anecdotal commentary, practical uses of herbs and medicinals in a beautifully illustrated presentation appealing to the human spirit. Not only a textbook on herbal remedies, but also a delightful journey into recipes for conjuring.
Rating: Summary: a good find Review: a very good reference for herbal use. The section on witch-craft is a little bit too far out there, but the different spells and recipes are a good laugh, I wonder where she found them or if she just made them up.
Rating: Summary: Perfection Review: An herbal with backbone. I was fortuenante enough to come across an old copy of this book from the 70's and am pleased to have done so. I disagree with the person who wrote in saying that the chapter on weight loss is offensive. If you dont respect yourself enough to stay fit then of course your going to find the material offensive. The book is not disgusting it is honest, something which is far to hard to come by anymore in metaphysical literature. There is also a fantastic chapter on forbidden herbal lore such as flying ointments and conjuratios of spirits. If you have backbone I reccomend you buy this book, if your a fluffy bunny wiccan then go elsewhere cause this aint for you.
Rating: Summary: Perfection Review: This invaluable book is a wonderful combination of recipes, anecdotal advice, and historical reference. I would recommend this book for the beginner who is interested in herbal history, would like to know how to find herbs, and start dabbling in recipes. For those who are more experienced, it would complete an herbal library.
Rating: Summary: Herbal introductions and references. Review: This invaluable book is a wonderful combination of recipes, anecdotal advice, and historical reference. I would recommend this book for the beginner who is interested in herbal history, would like to know how to find herbs, and start dabbling in recipes. For those who are more experienced, it would complete an herbal library.
Rating: Summary: Much needed Review: This is a much needed addition to anyone's herbal library. It is unlike almost any other herbal available on the market. Its a shame that something like this is not seen more on the shelves of those corporate warehouse book stores. Maybe it might be a good thing, this book really does belong on an old gnarled wooden shelf in some obscure shop run by a kindly old wonan who knows its pages by heart. If you buy it you will open your self up to a new world of herbal possibilities.
Rating: Summary: Ah The Old Days Review: This is an herbal for those seeking lore, uses, and truths about herbs. I would call this book a true witch's herbal and it's filled with an array of information that dazzles the mind. Open your herb cupboard and get out your mortar, this book will keep you busy with ideas and projects for years. Buy this herbal and while your at it pick up a copy of HEALING WISE by Susun Weed. These two books together are all you need in your herbal library. Ignore the new age tripe by scott cunningham and stick with tried and true methods.
