Rating: Summary: Food for the Table and the Soul Review: Pat has done an amazing book -- even though it's written for large-group cooking, it's usable for smaller volume cooking as well, simply by modifying the amounts used in a recipe. The instructions are very clear, the food is good home-cooking ("comfort food") -- the kind of food that if your mother didn't teach you to cook it, other cook books are disappointing because they make the recipes too elaborate. Not so with "Picnics." The book is also laced with heart warming vignettes about the author's childhood and family members. I like the way the book is bound -- it lays flat, like a good cookbook should and the pages are glossy, making cooking splashes manageable. If you enjoy cooking or even just reading cookbooks, this is a good addition to your home library.
