Rating: 2 stars
Summary: For Islanders Only
Review: I don't recommend this book unless you have access to the native produce of Hawaii. Each type of fruit or vegetable is listed alphabetically and the history/nature of it is explored and then some recipies are listed. Mainlanders will have a hard time finding such items as breadfuit, taro, poha, limu, liliko'i, nioi, and mountain apple! Therefore, skip this book if you have this problem. Also, there are no color photos in this book, only line drawings of scenes at the head of each chapter; there are no pictures of these fruits so you will have no clue what they look like if you're searching them out! In short, this book was clearly meant for Hawaiian natives who see these produce items everyday in their markets! For easier to use Hawaiian cookbooks, I recommend Hawaiian Cookbook by Roana & Gene Schindler, Entetaining Hawaiian Style by Patricia L. Fry, Hawaii Cooking With Aloha by Elvira Monroe & Irish Margah or Sam Choy's Hawaiian Flavors by Sam Choy.
