Review: Entertaining does not have to be stressful or difficult to be elegant and fun, thanks to this book. More than a cookbook, ideas and suggestions spill out from each page, giving both the beginner and the seasoned entertainer alike practical advice and time-saving techniques that can make hosting any sized party an enjoyable experience. From creating a mood, to planning the meal, to folding napkins and decorating the table, to tips on how to stay calm and cool, this book guides you through a successful dinner party and leaves no detail forgotten. As food is the central focus of any gathering, this book excels at presenting pages upon pages of delectable and savory menu items. In addition to sections on breads, meats, soups, vegetables, and desserts, you can also find chapters on fondue, beverages, breakfasts, and nuts, all exquisitely photographed. I particularly enjoyed the abundance of recipes Pare included in this edition. Because so many other books include recipes with exotic or hard-to-find ingredients, I found it refreshing that all of the recipes call for items that are either already on-hand or as close as the local supermarket. In addition, the instructions are simple to follow, measurements are given in standard and metric units, and every recipe is beautifully photographed so you can know what the final results should resemble. Pare's book really does show you how to entertain with flair but without fuss. My only concern is that, because this book is so well-done and beautiful, the other books on entertaining in my collection have become obsolete!
