Rating: Summary: Mama's Soul Food, Is the Best out there Review: I have personally used the recipe book on more than on ocassion. The thing I like best is that to get that down-home soulful flavor, you don't have to be a scientist to measure or a Harvard scholar to read through the straight-to-the-point directions that are user friendly. When you're finished the food tastes so good, you might be confused. "Did my Mama make this, or is it that the recipe is so delicious?" Well, if you cooked it then you know that your Mama didn't cook. This is the perfect book for cooking afficionados, who have little time but big selective appetites. I would recommend this book to Jesus if I could. That food is just fantastic. If you are Chinese, German, Italian or Samoan. If you like soul food, then you have found the fountain of good ole down-home eats. Bon Appetite Timothy Pollard Satisfied Mama's Soul Food Book Owner
Rating: Summary: I did it myself!!!! Review: I like this cook book because I can understand the directions. I love to cook and my mom lets me cook from this book all by my self. I have made cornbread, jambalya, and peach cobbler with a little help. Thank you Mrs. Kirven for a book for adults and us kids.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: The food in this cookbook is great. I don't live at home anymore, and I miss my mama's cooking, so I bought this book and tried some of the recipes, and all I can say is WOW! Everything tasted like mama used to make. My girlfriend stole my book, so I bought another to cook for my new girlfriend. She cant believe how delicious the food is too! I give this cookbook 5 stars (and I have several cookbooks), The recipes are easy to follow and everything I've made tastes great!
Rating: Summary: Mmm...Mmm...Good, downhome cookin' !!! Review: This book is a colaboration of some of the best recipes anyone could ever want. Some don't like that it does not call for exact measurements, however not everyone has the same taste, therefore by using these types of measurements, each person who uses this book can have a sense of personalization to the dish they have created, therefore it makes them feel better about themself. Which is the whole purpose of this book in the first place. It was created in order that you can take it home, and make the recipes your own. So enjoy, everything in it is Mmm...Mmm...Good, downhome cookin' !!!

Rating: Summary: I did it myself!!!! Review: What a disappointment! I couldn't wait for this book to arrive, and opened it with great eagerness. But what a letdown! To call if flimsy (VERY flimsy) would be putting it VERY tactfully, and it was typed on a plain ole typewriter, and comb-bound with the kind of machine found in almost all offices and many homes. Even that would have been okay had the book been good, but it wasn't. Most of the recipes lack measurements (eg, vanilla, but no hint how much to use, or how the dish should taste - subtle or spicy). And none contain any descriptions, or hints about why it was Mama's specialty, how or when Mama served it, or anything like that. NOTHING. Just a few scant vague recipes w/o descriptions or measurements, some blurry black and white photos of Mama and her girls, and a hefty price tag for such a weak collection so poorly presented. Spoonbread and Strawberry Wine is one of my all-time favorite cookbooks, and I would have been thrilled with this had it merely described the recipes the way Spoonbread did - but this book gave no hint why a recipe might be special, or how it should taste. I also wouldn't have cared about the cheapy presentation and plain ole typewriter production had the recipes been worthwhile (after all, that's what I was buying), but they weren't. This was flimsy, cheapy, and a complete waste of money. I returned mine.
