Rating: Summary: Bruce is Loose Review: If you only read one book this year, then you are an illiterate fool. But this should be the book you read. Bruce Campbell, cult hero (and actor), wrote the perfect book for his fans - it drips with charisma, his clever and self-depreciating humor, and a genuine personal and honest touch you rarely find in your run-of-the-mill, ghost-written Hollywood memoir. And it has everything a Deadite could want - very amusing anecdotes of his early childhood and teen years, tons and tons of photos, fascinating behind-the-scenes info about the making (and funding) of the Evil Dead movies, and tons of valuable insight into the Hollywood system, from the point of view of the low man on the totem pole.I found his casual, anecdotal writing style really fun, although I agree with critics that he doesn't get too detailed or self-analytical about his personal life. He also breezes over his television work, which might frustrate Brisco and Xena fans. But in general, Bruce Campbell - an extremely likeable guy - succeeds with this extremely likeable book. Hail to the king!
Rating: Summary: DEADITES RULE! Review: While, as a confirmed deadite I am biased, I found this book to be a great read! Details of his personal life are oddly almost absent which seems odd in a book of this nature. Not many confessions so to speak. However, there are plenty of details on the making of the Evil Dead movies, the most important thing, and his youth which kind of make up for it. There are also a great many fun photos to make it all the more fun to read.
Rating: Summary: A Quick Read with Lots of Chuckles Review: Hail to the king, baby! I'm not the biggest Bruce fan on the planet, but I do enjoy Evil Dead II and (horrors) III as well. This book was quite an enjoyable read and worth every penny. It shows you how insane you have to be to work in the movie industry, while at the same time giving you plenty of appreciation for that insanity.
Rating: Summary: This Chin killed me Review: Simply put: I laughed. I laughed long and hard. So much so, my wife was being driven nuts. Whether you are a fan of the Evil Dead Series, Brisco County Jr, or if you are asking yourself "Who hte heck is this guy?" YOU WILL LOVE THIS BOOK. This was one of the more creatively written books I have picked up in a long time. The stories are priceless, descriptions are hillarious, and I actually learned something about the acting profession. I could not recommend this book more highly. However, should you have heart troubles or if you are firmly set against enjoying yourself then you should not buy this book. BUT, if you want a light and humorous read, this book is for you.
Rating: Summary: The funniest and most interesting book ever Review: I loved this book. I read it in only two days. Even if you don't know who Bruce Campbell is, I think you would find this book funny and inspirational. There are many great pictures and many interesting and yes, even strange emails to Bruce from fans. I even had my book signed by Bruce in October when he was in my town promoting his great book. He's a great guy. Buy his book and make him a very rich man! :) P.S. This book deserves more than 5 stars, but this thing only went up to 5.
Rating: Summary: This Chinner's No Winner Review: The most interesting part of this book is the foreward written by the publisher concerning the incredibly inappropriate behavior of Ivan and Sam Raimi not only toward the publisher himself (stealing his pen and an antique silver clock while he was out of his office for a few moments for instance) and but toward each other as well. Bruce is a very casual writer without training in the field and it shows. He reveals so very little about himself, his feelings, opinions and thoughts, and seems at times to consider himself simply an unfeeling tool to be paid to be knocked around by directors and others. The chapters are numerous, short, and often boringly irrelevant to an "autobiography." One entire chapter, for instance, deals with the troubles Bruce had with a used car he bought and then later sold to a guy who had no problem with it; not exactly fascinating material. Some of the material concerning the making of the "Evil Dead" films in particular conflicts with statements Campbell, Raimi and others have made in earlier interviews (I personally interviewed Bruce by phone a few years ago and was surprised at the extreme irritation he displayed toward any questions concerning his horror-film history as he didn't want to be typecast as a horror actor, feeling he has much more to offer than his horror/humor personna; he is great in humorous roles, especially those involving the high drama of horror, but to be honest, in my opinion he doesn't cut it in serious roles, especially when he cries.). So this book is strictly for those enamored of Bruce's stalwart good looks and those seeking further details (conflicting or not) about his roles, particularly in the very genre he hopes to discard, horror and humorous/horror films. If you're hoping to find the real Bruce between these pages, don't bother as the lights are on but nobody's home.
Rating: Summary: All Hail Bruce! Review: This book presents a very entertaining and personal side of one of the most enjoyable actors in (at least occasionally) Hollywood. While any fan would definitely love it, it has broad enough appeal for anyone to read and enjoy. Bruce writes with great honesty and humor. This is not, by any means, a shocking tell-all (the "tell-all" portions are about as far from shocking as you can get); instead, it is a highly enjoyable peek into the life of a down-to-earth actor and cult hero.
Rating: Summary: I was laughing out loud! Review: I am a huge fan of Bruce Campbell, i ran to get this book when i first heard about it. I read the whole book in about 4 days. it had me laughing out loud on the train. Campbell is so open & honest about all he went through in becomming the star that he is now. If you are a fan of his, you should read this book. & if you aren't a fan, this book will make you love him. Bruce Campbell is the best b movie actor ever. & he is the king of cheesey lines. All hail to the king!!!
Rating: Summary: I Wanted...More... Review: Real Rating: 3.5 stars. I read this book in 10-11 hours, and I'm not really a fast reader. The book FOCUSES on Bruce's life from childhood to just after Army of Darkness. Other areas - Brisco for one - were glossed over in comparison. It felt to me as if the post-Dead stuff was done with an Editor standing over his shoulder saying "Faster! Wrap it up!" The book really needed an "Update" chapter at the end; the book ends with the last episode of Hercules which was at least 2 years ago. I had high expectations for the book, but to me it was just kind of disappointing; I thought it would be a little more interesting, a little more amusing, and little...well...more. If you're a Bruce Campbell fan, though, it's really impossible not to recommend this.
Rating: Summary: Campbell is the god of Hollywood! Review: Oh my god, I always thought the autobiographies by actors must be the most boring books on the earth. I love the Evil Dead series and when I saw this book on eBay I just thought: there must be at least one actor on this world who can write a good book. Bruce Campbell could do what other actors couldn't, write an interesting, funny book about the world of B-movies and the unordinary life of a man with an ordinary job. He doesn't tell you the glamorous story of an actor who earns millions of dollars. And doesn't bore you with his thought about the world, how horrible he thinks about this horrible wars, about which president he likes and what kind of toiletpaper he uses. He tells you the life of a man, who played GI-Joe with his brother, who (failed) in his early years in getting a girl, his experiences as a taxi driver with hookers. I nearly died because I had to laugh so much and you will experience the same as I did. Bruce Campbell is such a great guy as he is in his films. Buy this book, now, now, now!!!
