Rating: Summary: Its kinda cool for a coffee table book Review: Its cool for a coffee table book. But as far as heavy reading goes the content simply isnt there..
Rating: Summary: Peace, Love, EMPATHY Review: There is definitely a controversy here. Whether or not it is ethical to steal a dead man's journal. It is one thing to steal, but it is another thing to judge. I consider it to be a grave sin to judge, which i am not saying as a "religious" person, but as a person with a mind. There is also an outrage amongst fans of Kurt Cobain. Allegations against Courtney. Assumptions that she is an insane, homicidal, hypocritical witch at stake. Assumptions that Kurt Cobain was a loser because he commited "suicide." This is all so ironic. Who's the real hypocrite here? Kurt, if anything, was just another person, like you and I, in his love, his empathy, his pain, his life and death. More than just a generation followed in his path. A great friend of mine once told me, hate the sheep, not the shephard." I now understand. It is your choice to pry into his thoughts. What has been done has been done. The dead man's thoughts aren't his own anymore."You read, you judge."
Rating: Summary: Incredible Book Review: This might be the rawest journey into man of all time in the form of book. Journals is a glimpse into the genious that was kurt cobain. Nirvana fans, and fans of human appreciation in general will want to check this out. Peace, Eric
Rating: Summary: True artist Review: This book offers great insight into the inner thoughts of the man and the dispeles the surrounding myths. Kurt himself was an industrious artist who was serious about what he did and what he wanted to achieve. The book contains some of Kurt's incredible drawings as wells as the thoughts and early lyrics that were the genesis of many of the songs that we all know and love. If you can dismiss his naïve and sometimes-idiotic banter against 'big corporations' and the 'establishment', you'll enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: Shows his high intelligence Review: I'm not getting into the political issue concerning publishing Kurt's private stuff, but I think this book show what a genius Kurt is! I'm a hugh Nirvana fan and will always be!
Rating: Summary: Kurt's Legacy Review: This book is a must have for any Nirvana fan. It opens new doors to Kurt's life and show's you exactly what he was thinking for most of his life. The editors of the book did a great job by digital photographing pages directly from his journals into the book. It's like reading his real journals! A must have!
Rating: Summary: Nice Stream of Consciouness writing, but not for the public Review: I would not reccomend this book to anyone. The entries are random, scattered thoughts-- building blocks for creation. UNlike DeVincinci's "sketches," that indeed provide a complete image of his subject matters, Cobain is dealing, wrestling with internal emotions and trying to churn out words and melody to depict these emotions. The entries are not reflective of his genius. Further, most of the subject matter of the journal entries were, in deed, successfully depicted in his songs. In other words, there is absolutely nothing new to discover in the journal entries chosen for publication. The one entry re Ms. Love is a pretty poem expressing his love/awe of her personality. I find it hard to believe that he never journaled about his resentments toward Courtney or his fear of fatherhood. Yeah, these subjects are more personal than his artistic creations, but if you are going to publish his journals, publish them all-- not just piecemeal entries that reveal nothing that fans don't already know.
Rating: Summary: Notebook of a genius Review: This is definitely fascinating reading material for anyone remotely interested in Kurt. However, I'm only giving the book four stars because perhaps some editorial additions could have provided more background on when the notes were written and what was going on in Kurt's life at the time. Some people, including perhaps Chris from Nirvana, think it was an ... thing to publish these journals. I have to say I partially agree that it is a bad thing, but on the other hand it makes you feel closer to Kurt to be able to read about some of these ideas. At times I found this book depressing, and at other times I found it extremely humorous. I think Kurt actually had a great sense of humor, in spite of his demons. He is an immortal rock god. Avery Z. Rating: Summary: Longing for more! Review: Well, if you are looking for a plot or story...this may not be your book, however, this is a very interesting look into the late, great Kurdt Cobains mind, pre-fame and in the early stages of his celebrity. Although, I do feel/believe that there are most likely some missing/deleted entries, I still greatly enjoyed "getting to know" this wonderful person. I highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys biographical works. I especially enjoyed the fact that the pages are copied directly from his journal, and not typed or rewritten.
