Summary: An Intimate Look at The Sound of Music
Review: Charmian Carr received the opportunity of a lifetime when she was cast as Liesl in The Sound of Music. Her candid transparency in telling what it was like to be a part of making America's favorite movie (topping even Titanic!) is wonderfully refreshing. She brought one of the greatest stories on film down to earth with her enlightening account of what it was like to work with Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, and the budding young stars who played her siblings, and yet thrills the reader with her entertaining "behind the scenes" anecdotes. She shares many letters and stories from fans, highlighting the resoundingly significant effect that the Sound of Music has had on people of all ages all over the world, and she brings the real von Trapp family to life as she tells about meeting them and summarizes the actual account of what REALLY happened to them in Austria. This is a wonderful companion to The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria Augusta Trapp.

Summary: "To write on. . ."
Review: Forever Liesl: A Memoir of The Sound of Music is an enchantingly beautiful read for anyone who adores the film. Ms. Charmian Carr's delightful story of playing the role of Liesl in the classic movie is wonderfully told by the "sixteen-going-on-seventeen" actress herself. I enjoyed the between-chapter anecdotes from viewers who love the film and have connected with it as much as I have. Questions about the making of the movie, actors, behind-camera crew, and much more are answered. And, rather than spoil the overall picture, the added knowledge supplied by the book only enhances the film's magic. For example, I was happy to learn that the seven Sound of Music "siblings" have remained close friends over the years. Ms. Carr's book is lovely, and I recommend it to everyone who fell in love with the movie. Forever Liesl is Something Good. Very good!

Summary: Everyone Loves Liesl
Review: I do not think it is possible for any person to live their life without seeing "The Sound of Music." It is one of the best-loved movies of all time, and Liesl is one of the best-loved characters of all time. Little girls want to be like Liesl. Little boys have crushes on Liesl. If you are a huge fan of the movie like me, this book is a must-own. If you are not, this book is guaranteed to make you a fan. Charmian Carr, who played the role of Liesl 35 years ago, writes about the movie from her perspective.

Carr tells about her memorable moments on the set, her friendships with the other cast members, her experiences in Austria and several stories that will give you a new appreciation for certain scenes in the movie.

This is a great light-reading book for anybody who has ever seen "The Sound of Music." I read it straight through in a couple of days. Charmian Carr has a great way of relating to the reader, drawing you in and making you feel like she is sitting right there in the room having a conversation with you.

Summary: Somewhat Disappointing
Review: I love The Sound of Music and I was was anxious to read a "behind the scenes" account of the movie. Ms. Carr does relay some anecdotes from making the movie but not enough for my taste. She spends more chapters talking about what happened after the movie came out than what happened during the filming. Regardless of these drawbacks, "Forever Liesl" is a very easy read.

Summary: the inside story
Review: I love the Sound of Music movie and this book delighted me. It is very well written, and very personal. Charmaine Carr tells her story about being cast in the movie without all the drama that often happens in today's tell-all books. This was a refreshing read. It was surprising to know all the problems the directors and producers went through to find just the right actor for the parts. The care they took to maintain the continuity over the entire shoot is astounding. I would recommend this book to any Sound of Music fan.

Review: I loved this book. It was easy to read. I especially liked the fan's stories. Every SOM fan has their special reason for why the movie captured their heart. Thank you Ms. Carr for providing us fans with another way to keep in touch with our favorite musical.

Summary: Forever Charming
Review: I read this book last year and should have reviewed it then, but I never got around to it. Since then, Charmian Carr has come out with her latest book, so I thought I should get around to this before I read the new one. "Forever Liesl" is a charmingly written story of the filming of one of Hollywood's greatest gems. I can just hear the friendly voice of Charmian Carr as I read each page. Her narrative is consistently interesting and it was a lot of fun to revisit a special place from my childhood. As usual with any work environment, each person is bound to react differently to the same situations and Miss Carr dutifully reports, with no malice, the behavior of her costars and crew. This book, like the making of the film, was obviously a labor of love for Miss Carr, and her charming reminiscenses make for a very happy read.

Summary: Charming
Review: I read this in preparation for a trip to Austria. Very enjoyable insiders look at my favorite film. Highly recommended. After reading this, I was much more knowledgeable about the Sound of Music than was our tour guide on the SOM tour.
