Summary: Entertaining
Review: A very enjoyable read from many perspectives. A beginning nanny from small-time Oregon ends up as a nanny for Steve Swartz (probably Mike Ovitz), Rhea Pearlman and Debra Winger. Most people will focus on how the stars live and the difference between the powerful agent and the wonderful, friendly stars (Sally Field also mentioned in glowing terms). But this is also a tale of a young girl growing up in a unique environment.

While the nanny has many complaints, it can't be good news for a couple to ask for a two year commitment and then have the nanny abruptly announce she is leaving (but she still wants to be able to see the kids). So in many ways, the back-story is as interesting as the "nanny to the stars" tale.

I read this book not knowing who the agent Schwartz was but surprised I had never heard of him given the power described in this book. Readers on here say it is Ovitz which is entirely believable based upon the description of his habits, friends and work description. Evidently I missed the part where it referenced using alias names. And you get to see the famous Ovitz at work when he attempts to "sell" the Nanny on staying and is unsuccessful. Just ask the writer Joe Esterhas how that works.

Overall I REALLY enjoyed this read. Yes, I know I'm a male and enjoy sports books but this told a great entertaining story of seeing the world through the eyes of a very high-income family as told from someone who had no idea lives like this existed. This book will appeal to anyone who likes stories of Hollywood or family life.

Summary: Feeds that hungry gossip monster!
Review: About the adventures of a nanny in Hollywood who worked for a well-to-do film industry family, the book is well written in an entertaining fashion that intigrates notes and quips about such stars as Sylvester Stallone, Goldie Hawn and Dustin Hoffman. My only complaints are that I wish it had been more "meaty" with jucier tidbits about the stars that the nanny came in contact with. Also, she really gets pretty negative about the family she worked for and after awhile you get a sense of "poor me". Over all though, it's a fun book and worth the $$$.

Summary: Great Entertainment -- Good Message
Review: As a former executive wife, who employed nannies, I really loved this book. My nannies were always part of the family. When we took them on vacation, they got a vacation!! But we gave up that lifestyle, and what a confirmation this book was, that the executive lifestyle is just not enjoyable!

I totally understood how the mother felt overwhelmed over nothing, because the less you do, the more inept you get! You're so busy trying to be the "perfect" wife, you end up being a crappy mother. I think this is a must-read for anyone considering employing a nanny.
Always be mom. A nanny is an extra set of hands, but should never replace Mom. I know the Nanny was softest on the dad, but often, the dad is the main problem because a wealthy man gets everything he wants at work, and expects work to be his castle, without conflict. Well, good luck with a bunch of kids!
I also really enjoyed how the nanny was honest about her screw-ups and antics, which were hilarious and yet frightening if she got caught. Very fun read, enjoyed it all!

Summary: I LIKED IT ALL!!!
Review: As a mother of two it was an insightful look into how the other half live. It was fun for me to dream about having a staff cook my meals, a trainer come to the house and someone to do my laundry. I highly recommend it for anyone that has children. A great funny read.

Summary: What a Great Reality Check!
Review: As the mother of two girls, I can honestly say there are many days I feel like I am losing my grip on my life! I just can't spend the time and the money to try and look like Michele Pfieffer (as if I could anyway!). However, its a great relief to know that most of the lives of the Rich and Famous run on completely different fuel than the rest of us! Ms. Hansen eloquently describes her days working and living in this alternative reality. Her book is funny and often inspirational and tragic. I can't imagine anyting worse than having my child run to a stranger when she needs a hug. Parenting is all about balance and this is clearly the far end of the spectrum! Read this book if you want to be thoroughly entertained, and educated and inspired on how the other half lives. You might just decide those carzy dinner hours and not having a shower since Kennedy was in office is not so bad!

Summary: You will never nanny in this town again
Review: Being a former Nanny myself I could identify the humor and heart ache of caring for other peoples children. This read had me in stitches many times but also left me with pain and compassion for not only the nanny, but her charges. I think the author does a creative job getting the message out that sometimes the caregivers in our homes and out in our communities are often under valued, overworked, and under compensated for caring for other's children. Anyone who is a nanny, a caregiver, thinking of becoming one, or even hiring one would greatly benefit from this experianced nannies story.

Summary: you'll never nanny in this town again
Review: Having been a nanny for about 30 years total one can only appreciate the candor of the author, Suzanne Hansen.
How can one decide what is a good and what is a great job. Well, in Suzanne's book one certainly will find out what family is interested in getting the best nanny for the money, give her respect, and make sure that her personal needs are taken care of as well.
The pain I felt for this woman was one I had experienced myself in my last nanny job in NY. The two girls I took care of were so needy of the real love, attention, and personal touch that it hurt me to let them go. However, as the author I too had to make a decision to leave and become a healthy human being again, or to stay and lose everying that I ever believed in as a nanny.

What I like most that throughout all the pain one could feel the author still managed to align everything humorous, insightful, and educational. Most of all the comparison to the love, understanding, and respect received from the other families.

Every nanny must be aware that the priveledge once taken for granted on seeing the children at any time is taken away as soon as the decision to leave is made.

I will buy this book for all my friends, not just nanny. And also for the family I work for presently

Summary: LOVED IT!!
Review: I absolutely LOVED this book and the author! I felt for her and could so relate to what she was going through. Llike Suzanne, I grew up in a small town and left home at 19 to become a live-in Nanny. I was paid $150.00 a week to care for three kids 24/7, clean house, and cook. Unlike Suzanne, I had NO ONE to talk to except my Mom, IF I could afford the long distance phone call. Anyway, I felt her pain and LOVED the book. She is also VERY funny!!

PS. Steve Swartz REALLY IS Mike Ovitz:

Mark Ebner -- investigative journalist and contributor to the jaded, snarky, underground Hollywood rag LA Innuendo -- has a new book out on February 24. "Hollywood, Interrupted: Insanity Chic in Babylon -- The Case Against Celebrity," co-written with Andrew Breitbart (Matt Drudge's right-hand guy). Basically 416 pages of celebrities behaving badly. Read how Mike Ovitz's then six-year-old son once peed on a tree in the front yard, yelling "My mom said I could, and mom is in charge of you, I could have you fired!" to his nanny when she scolded him.

Summary: HOLLYWOOD IS GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT THIS ONE!!
Review: I can't wait for the residents of Beverly Hills to hear about this book and run out and buy it to see if their name is in it. Might make them think twice about how they have treated their friend's nannies(like an old shoe, or like a living breathing human being)Loved getting the inside scoop, that I don't get from People magazine. I admired the author for obviously sensoring the "good dirt", it made me love her story even more since she DIDN'T reveal all that she witnessed.
