Rating: Summary: Should be renamed Logic Powerless Review: After reading this book I still don't understand how to get a midi track to produce sound during playback. This book may be useful to people that already understand how to work logic, but fails to cater to the basic needs of the beginner. It lacks a "let's walk though putting together a basic song" chapter, which would have been extremely useful. It assumes too often that you remember everything that has come before putting you in a difficult position if you have any desire to skip around to the parts you are most interested in. Finally, it sorely lacks a configuration confirmation chapter that would let you know you have everything hooked up correctly, or a troubleshooting chapter to help you figure out basic problems. I ended up ordering a different training resource as after reading this I was no closer to understanding how to do anything useful with Logic. I have had more luck playing around with logic on my own and reading through the included product manuals. I don't see any compelling reason to buy this book and I wish I could get my money back.
Rating: Summary: Finally! Review: Finally a good book on Logic VERSION 6. Explains concepts to beginners and advanced users. Very thorough and complete. It's not totally comprehensive of the features in Logic, but it comes pretty close. Excellent. I was waiting for a book like this!

Rating: Summary: Do NOT buy this book. There are better alternatives! Review: I own all of the books written for Logic, and this one is among the worst!! Its more or less a transcription of the manual without any new insights. It doesn't have the fresh idea of Len Sasso's book. It doesn't have the step-by-step approach of the Apple published book. It doesn't have the down to earth, cut to the chase lucidty of Bennet's book.
Merton's book is a topic by topic rehash of the manual, and rather boring and misleading at times. In fact I prefer the free manuals that come with Logic 7 which are well written... and don't cost a penny extra. I guess you can put a snazzy title on a book and make it sound important. But just as you can put lipstick on a pig, it doesn't make it a lady.
Plus, Logic 7 has been out for months, and so this book is already out of date! Just forget this book!
Rating: Summary: GREAT potential, but falls well short... Review: I've been a great follower of Orren's posts in the Logic user groups, and I had anticipated this book ever since I first heard of its' inception. It is a disappointment, however. The arrangement and the writing is sometimes confusing, and the book seems to be simply a rewrite of the manual, going through each menu item step by step with dry details from the manual, giving very few practical examples and without very much exposition. I would've liked a more "practical" approach, with chapters dealing with task-related items, instead of the "let's rehash the manual" concept... If Mr. Merton, who is obviously a Logic genius, chooses to revise this book, it could be phenomenal. I would suggest a different approach, with sidebar tips scattered through, with more screenshots to show detailed actions involved in practical daily use. In other words, each topic would be a "mini-tutorial" focused on that topic in the particular chapter's flavor (e.g., mastering, MIDI production, Editing (audio/midi), etc.). As well, I feel that the index could've been much better. The book I have in mind would truly be a "Power"---this book is not. So, a good first effort overall, but I was disappointed. I would be on the fence in my recommendation of it, and it would depend on the particular user. I would recommend that ALL users buy Sasso's book first, and then to carefully examine this book's layout before buying...
Rating: Summary: Should be renamed Logic Powerless Review: I've had Logic 6 for a year, and while I know some of it, its pretty complicated. This book really helped me understand what seemed, well, un-"logical" about Logic! Thorough and well written. I really liked the cross-reference of Logic's menu commands in the Appendix! That and the book's index sure beats the manual's lack of indexing. Overall a great buy if you want to learn Logic. Highly recommended.
