Summary: A good introduction
Review: This book is a good introduction to playing poker for money. If you're only going to read one book on the subject, this is a good start. It won't make you an expert, but it should let you hold on to your bankroll a little longer.

Summary: If any book is just OK - This is It!
Review: This book is really just for newbies. It does not really go into depth like a lot of the other good books out there. A lot of basic information in a very user friendly format. So for a new player this book could be useful when contrasting to sklansky's books that are packed full of quality info but difficult to interpret.

If anyone is wondering what other books out there may offer more in the way of information..I would suggest you buy Sklansky's Hold'em for Advanced Players for the semi skilled. If you are very green then try Winning at Low Limit Hold'em by Lee Jones.

If you are a new poker player and would like to start playing poker online at www.partypoker.com - make sure you use the bonus code: "AMAZON25" and you will receive $25 free on your first purchase at www.PartyPoker.com. You can also use the Bonus Code "AMAZON100" and you will receive a 20% bonus up to $100! If you already play at PartyPoker, you can also play at www.Pokerroom.com. Use the promotion code "100BONUS" and you will receive 20% up to $100.

Summary: for beginners...but thats ok
Review: This book is truly for beginners...but it does not hold itself out to be the best book in the world for poker. So it is what it is!!! It will definately explain some of the simpler concepts to the player and give them a good base to start playing. You wont feel emberassed when you go to your local game, a casino or venture out to the online poker world.

Summary: Pointless . . . Move On
Review: This books is too broad in scope. I love the "Dummies" books, however this one misses its many marks. Until you see "Pot Limit Texas Hold'em for Dummies" or "9/6 Jacks or Better for Dummies", I'd pass on this one and find any of the other well written books that pertain to the certain subject for which you are looking.

Summary: Very good enjoyable book ¿ Now Get to Playin
Review: This was a very Enjoyable Book. It provided important and useful concepts about the game of Poker. I learned new concepts, which identified some leaks in my game. Leaks in your game can come from anywhere!!! Leaks can originate from lack of aggression, overcalling raises, misreading opponents and any other number of ways. So this book helps. Many people look at poker the wrong way. They think to win they need to do all of this super fancy plays and mindblowing stunts. Well folks...there are not that many options in poker...you fold, call or raise. So its really hard to do thinks that will just fool your opponents all the time. To win at poker it is mostly limiting your mistakes and getting all that you can from winning hands and minimizing losses on losing hands...that's it

Ive been playing for about 5 years now and love the game. Ive read many poker books and found this one to be very good. So I would suggest you buy this book and maybe a couple others and get to playing. There's really no excuse anymore - since anyone can access the internet.

Summary: A Fresh Perspective On An Old Game
Review: To give you an idea how much I like this book, I checked it out of the library first. Then, after I had read it -- and renewed it the maximum number of times allowed -- I bought it for myself as a Christmas present.

In keeping with the For Dummies format and emerging tradition, this book will provide meaningful assistance to all levels of Poker enthusiasts, from beginners (like myself) on up. It debunks a multitude of myths and gives extensive details one could not reasonably expect to find anywhere else (except perhaps the IRC Website, but PFD's materials are much better organized!).

More important than the poker details are the covert efforts at values clarification -- willingness to study, cultivation of patience and regulation of one's ego are just a few examples -- and the noble effort to portray members of Planet Earth's poker elite as both positive people and as talents deserving wider recognition.

Thanks to all the authors who participated in the writing of this book. Thanks to you, I have a new perspective on an old game and have plunged into my newest hobby. Once I am back on the West Coast in 3 or 4 years, I'll have plenty of ammunition with which to tackle Reno and Tahoe. Meanwhile, I have small but enthusiastic Council Bluffs, Iowa on which to cut my novice's teeth.

Summary: Poker For Dummies introduces poker to everyone.
Review: When my coauthor, Richard D. Harroch, and I began "Poker For Dummies," our objective was to create a book that introduces readers to all the popular forms of poker, as they are played in cardrooms and casinos in the United States and all over the world. We also packed this book with enough tips and advice so that experienced players would benefit from it too.

We had plenty of help in writing this, and some real experts were gracious enough to guest author a chapter or two.

"Poker For Dummies" provides a strategic framework for playing winning poker. It also provides additional sources for learning about poker --including other books, specialized computer software, and the Internet newsgroup rec.gambling.poker.

"Poker For Dummies" also shows you how to play in poker's ultimate frontier -- cyberspace: real poker played for real money (or even just for fun) against live opponentns via the internet.

We hope you enjoy this book and improve your poker game as a result of having read it. And feel free to send any comments my way.
