Summary: A book for a creative musical life.......
Review: If I had a dime for every "lick" book out there I would have a lot of dimes. The lick books stay on the shelf. Damian's book seeps into your musical creativity. Once you start playing with the ideas in this book you will realize a whole new world of sonic possiblities on the guitar.

To me Jon is really getting us to get out of the "comp" and "solo" dual personalities that most guitarists are subject to. He shows how you could have your soloing be more harmonic and your comping be more melodic.

The "pallette chart" demonstrates the world of sound that is not a triad or seventh chord. This is the area that great players like Ben Monder and Bill Frisell and Jon Damian are masters of.

The thing I like best is that I will be able to keep refering back to this book all my life. The ideas never end. Jon teaches you "how" to keep exploring the guitar and music.

You just might not ver need another "lick" book.

Summary: Excellent book for inquisitive guitarists
Review: One of the most creative guitar books I've ever found, yet very accessible. People who were intrigued by Mick Goodrick's "The Advancing Guitarist" but found it somewhat hard to digest will really get into this book. It's a great rutbuster and I know I'll refer to it for a lifetime!

Summary: INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO GUITAR
Review: This book is a breath of fresh air. Great for breaking bad and boring habits we guitar players fall into. Seeing the guitar as a credible counterpoint instrument, modern motif improvising, composing, and "off the beaten path" voicings are some of the many topics examined. Excellent for any level. The sooner you get started on these concepts the better. ALL THOSE INTERESTED IN BREAKING THE MOLD PLEASE SIGN HERE!!!!!

Summary: Worthless book
Review: This book seems to be aimed at a very low level , full of gimmicks, crossword puzzles and sound effects(flushing toilets, sneezing etc.)
The musical theory jumps all over the place ... infact I really don't want to waste my time reviewing it!!!
ITS POOR BE WARNED DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

Summary: Knowledge and Inspiration from a Legendary Guitar Guru
Review: This is a great, great book. I agree with the previous reviewer that the serious guitarist has the most to gain from using this book, but there's something for everyone here as well. "The Guitarist's Guide" is fantastic not only because of the knowledge that Jon shares--which opens up *tons* of new possibilities--but also because Jon's creativity and enthusiasm shine through on every page. Bring your open mind and your creativity, and you'll surely be rewarded!
