Rating: Summary: A good book, if you dont know a thing about the industry. Review: These is a good book, it gives you an introduction to the label industry, i dont quite think the book, gets to deep with important stuff such as royalty sharing, marketing and important stuff with accurate information. The author just explains overall what she thinks and what worked for her. I recommend it if you dont know a thing about the industry.
Rating: Summary: You get more than what you pay for and some! Review: This book covers everything from thinking about it to the specifics in actually doing it! If you're really serious about starting a label you've found your book baby. Wonderfully written, concise and inspiring. Her own personal experiences made this book feel like you were a part of it. Believe me, when you finish this book you're going to feel like you know it all! To the author Daylle Deanna Schwarts, Bravo Honey!Bravo!
Rating: Summary: The Book Review: This book didn't really have anything tha had to do with starting a record label. All it had was stuff about bands. Oh we'll i can just go to guitar center and ask them there all about it for free.
Rating: Summary: Invaluable for a Beginner Review: This book is a very informative book for a beginner and for those that have been working in the music industry for years. It tackles many of the issues that someone will confront when starting and running a label. It is full of outside input in the form of quotational passages from industry professionals, so even if you do not trust the author, she has brought reinforcements. At first I was a bit turned off by the fact that an ex-high school teacher was the author, but Mrs. Schwartz deffinitly knows the music business and many tricks to get yourself started. Perhaps her being an educator as a profession has aided her chrystal clear explaination of many complicated topics. It is also a very thurough book that you should read over and over again. (It even has a chapter about the "over-seas market). Worth the money, and the time to read it.
Rating: Summary: Not for experienced industry types Review: This is a good primer for those with little to no experience of the music industry who are looking to get in or those looking for a basic reference guide but if you've spent any significant time in the industry already doing a key marketing, promotion or A&R job at a major or major independent label, this book offers very little for you.
