Summary: Loved it! Good info if you are moving South.
Review: I'm moving to the South so I thought I should learn a few things about the culture. This book was a perfect introduction. Short and sweet, it doesn't take itself seriously. I heard about things new to me, like competition to get into the Junior League and picking out your silverware pattern before you're even engaged! Fun to read.

Summary: Chicken salad, even for girls North of The Mason Dixon
Review: I've read and reread this book more times than the typical Texan has had her hair frosted this year. Fun, witty and full of not-so-known southern trivia, it makes those of us born North of the M-D feel shorted.

Read this book and you'll fall in love with tomato sandwiches and keen your eye to scout out sterling silver Co-Cola tumblers. There are moments, while looking over my pool, that I imagine a group of Russian's bathing with my best soap.--Laurel825

Summary: another Southern Belle recommendation
Review: If you liked this book, I'd recommend "The Scandalous Summer Of Sissy Leblanc" -- a comedic thriller with hilarious tips from "The Southern Belle's Handbook" right in the book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Outstanding! Sometimes the best humor is the truth!
Review: Ms. Schwartz has provided a humorous yet honest look at the life of the "southern belle." You'll be rolling on the floor with laughter then you'll tease your hair and run out to find those darn iced tea spoons and deviled egg plates!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fun and infomative for anyone wishing to be a "belle!"
Review: My mother always jokes that she brought the wrong baby home from the hospital. A true New England girl, she was suprised when, in secondary school, I established a strong friendship with my hairdresser, and she laughed when I declared that the then popular "grunge" style was "discusting" and that nose piercings and green hair were terribly "unladylike." She was absolutly shocked and a little upset when I signed up for rush in college, fearing that I would be viewed as a "ditz." Currently preparing for law school, it is obvious that I am not a simple wallflower, and my mother has finally realised that I can be her "princess" and still be intelligent and informed. While I may not have inherited "belle" status, it was refreshing and enlightening to read this little treasure based on the belief that life truly is in the details. In this entertaining and sometimes comic book, the reader will not only learn about the right and wrong ways to make dishes, dress, speak, etc., but the underlying message is that a "belle" is a strong, smart woman who needs not appoligize for her femininity! Highly recommended for a fast, light and decadent read!

Summary: Every single word is true!
Review: My mother and I, both raised in the South, laughed and laughed while reading this book. It was so funny to us because ever single word in it is true. From the iced teas pitchers and deviled eggs platters to the silver pattern I selected for my wedding registry and joining the Junior League.

I am giving this book as a gift to my friend, who is a Brit marrying into a very southern family. She will hardly know what hit her otherwise.

Summary: A must have for every southern and northern woman.
Review: This book is hysterical. More so because it's true. Sure there are a few parts that aren't really like that today. I don't know anyone that has the bridesmaids shoes dyed to match the punch. But, I know what a good tomatoe sandwhich tastes like, and I too picked out my silver at a young age. Oddly enough, I found the silver section to be true to life. Chantilly girls were fast in high school.....

Being raised in the south I can identify with joining the Junior League. It took me forever to get into the Junior League in Raleigh. But, when I moved to Denver I was shocked to find out all I had to do was sign up. I didn't have to interview with a committee of women.

This is a great gift to give to a friend, sister or for yourself. It may have been written for humor only, but it is a guide to the women of the south.

Summary: Ah, the glorious South
Review: This book is one of my favorites! As a sorority alumnae, her chapters on rush leave me longing for skit shows and finger sandwiches! Schwartz has made me even prouder of my Southern heritage, and it is refreshing to see our traditions have remained true and dear to our people. Long live the South!
