Rating: Summary: A super reference Review: An exceptionally clear lay-out, informative and useful book. The print is easy to ready, and it's jam-packed with up-to-date information. Another bonus is that the hardcover version, with it's good quality paper and binding, is very durable (I've never used the softcover version, so I don't know about that one). It has more long words even than the New York Times crossword dictionary which, furthermore, fell apart much sooner despite being hard cover and with a similar price. With over 700,000 bits of information, it is quite simply an excellent reference manual for crossword junkies, I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: broad and indepth coverage of terms Review: Attractive display: both broad and indepth. The easy-to-find terms are numbered according to the number of letters; terms of general interests are given a box to themselves. Usually more terms per word than any other dictionary I have consulted. Get the hardbound for easier reading.

Rating: Summary: Random House Crossword Dictionary Review: Being a crossword "freak" with shelves and shelves of reference books on various subjects I was delighted to find this dictionary. Besides the standard crossword dictionary fare it includes many facts found in Almanacs (awards, sports trivia, etc) plus extensive information on people ranging from Presidents to movie stars plus detailed information on plays and even television shows. When I travel this is the only reference book I need to carry.
Rating: Summary: More popular culture terms than other books! Review: Crossword experts know that puzzle editors love to use terms from popular culture: brand names, TV characters, etc. Most crossword puzzle dictionaries aren't of great help in these areas -- but Random House Webster's Crossword Puzzle Dictionary is the exception! With very up-to-the-minute words arranged by easy-to-look-up subject, this book offers the answers you really need. Quick: what's an 11-letter name of a character on "Ally McBeal"? Or the winner of the 1997 Nobel Prize for Literature? Or the WNBA team from Detroit? Find it here!
Rating: Summary: Lacking a Lot for a Large Book Review: For as large as this book is,it lacks a lot, I'm very disappointed! I had to go back to A-Z Crossword Dict. for words as common as "Dental & Laser".
Rating: Summary: Very Helpful Review: I wrote a review on this book and put the review on the A to Z review. Please change for me.

Rating: Summary: I Expected Much More From Random House Review: I'm shocked that this dictionary is so useless. In the dozen times I used it I found nothing helpful. Type face is small, pages are super thin and layout is inconsistent. I'll stick with my tattered copy of Edy's A-Z.
Rating: Summary: Correction to previous review Review: Oops! The book does have all that great info about gods/goddesses etc., but it's not at the back of the book. It's included as a regular alphabetical entry.
