Review: An unusual book on the subject of gambling in that it is at the same
time instructive, easy -- even fun -- to read, and gives the reader a
much better understanding of how to play the slots than he had
before. The casual gambler actually understands little of the game; if
he learns things of value -- such as the best locations on the floor
to find a "loose" machine -- he obviously is in for a better
evening at the slots than otherwise. Larry Mak's fine little book does
just that: shares with the reader the author's long experience in the
casinos and his exceptional insight into the mysteries of slots.
There are definitely things to know about casinos that will assist the
average player in improving his experience there. This book gives him
that edge. Well worth the price.

Review: Anyone who has ever entered a casino will find this book a terrific resource. The author explains in layman terms how a slot machine works, dispelling myths. Fate is your best friend when you play a slot machine because there is nothing except mathematical probability when you hit the spin button. Luck has nothing to do with winning or losing at a slot machine, you just have to be in the right place at the right time.

An enjoyable read with many humorous anecdotes that many of us will be able to relate to. Highly informative: in providing payout tables of various machines that are seen in many casinos today. There is also a state listing by casino that shows how each casino pays by denomination of slot machine. It not only teaches, but also provides detailed tips to improve the player's chances of winning when playing slot machines.

This reviewer recently went to a casino and tried some of the hints from the book. Although I did not come out a winner, I limited my losses to $40.00 for 4 hours of playing time. Pretty good!! I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it for anyone who will be visiting a casino in the near future. For those who gamble and those who do not but are curious and want to learn. Enjoy!

Review: I can't believe I have played all these years without knowing the information contained in this book. There is no magic here, but there are strategies that casinos use in placing loose slots amongst tighter slots. Knowing where these slots are may increase your winnings. There is other helpful knowledge here such as avoiding progressives and common sense ways to get a grip on how to curtail your losses (which involves controlling yourself basically). But how many of us really take a minute to set up a plan how much we are going to let ourselves play with? Like I said, its not magic, but a lot of common sense tips to use to make sure you are playing with your head and not your emotions....

Review: I just took an hour or so and read the Secrets of Modern Slot Playing by Larry Mak. I found it very informative and I believe that it will be helpful during my next trip to Vegas. I have read several other books on slot playing over the years, i.e., Slot Machine Mania and Break the One Arm Bandits. It is nice that Larry Mak has issued a 2001 edition because the information in these previous books has become somewhat outdated due to the fact that technology changes so quickly. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to further their enjoyment playing slots and those who are interested in learning a few valuable secretes to help increase their chances of winning!

Review: The reviewer from Sedona makes an invalid comparison of Larry Mak's book with two others. Secrets of Modern Slot Playing is a how-to book. As such, it provides only the essential information the average slot player really needs to know. A how-to book by its nature does not go into the elaborate detail the Sedona reviewer finds missing. Also, the Sedona reviewer's phrase "not one of the best books" is not strictly correct from a logical point of view. Technically, there can be only one "best book," although we use the phrase "one of the best" in everyday speech. But what is the point of ranking three good books of different sorts? That is such a subjective exercise. Secrets of Modern Slot Playing is a handy guidebook that provides tips to make anyone's visit to a casino more enjoyable and rewarding.
