Rating: Summary: The Card-mans' Bible Review: The mystery behind the author of this book is as fascinating as the book itself. Written at the beginning of the 20th century it is the first book that had in depth explanations of card cheating techniques at the time known only throughout the gambling underground. An early edition of this book sold on eBay for tens of thousands of dollars (I forgot the exact amount). If for no other reason you should read this book for its historic significance.I gave this book a 4 star rating as opposed to 5 stars for the sole reason that I personally think some of the explanations are not thorough enough. This may be due to the fact that it was the first of its kind and is not to be taken too harshly. I also think that some of the illustrations could have been better - but that's just me, because I happen to be an illustration lover. Bottom line - if you are interested in card manipulations, gambling (crooked or on the square), card magic or all of the above you can not skip reading this book. Many card professionals around the world constantly refer to materials from this book. If you wanted to be a physicist you would have to read Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time" - if you want to be a card-man (woman) "The Expert at the Card Table" is it.

Rating: Summary: Wall St. Journal Front Page Article Review: What else can I say? This book contains the real mechanics used by professional card handlers. The author's true name is not known because he knew that exposing these secrets could be detrimental to his health. Most of the material within is knuckle-busting, but worth your time if you would like to know how card cheats do what they do. -Diamond Jim Tyler
