Rating: Summary: Simply ridiculous film reviews! Review: This book is written by the crtitic who is so stupid that he thought Moulin Rough will win the Academy Award fot the best picture of the year. This would tell you exactly how valuable his film reviews would be. It will be much better if he does not include his stupid opinions in his reviews at all. Better spend your money on something else!
Rating: Summary: Interesting New Format Review: This new kind of venture is a fun read. I have several past volumes of his Video Companion and have always enjoyed Mr. Ebert's reviews. This tome has some great stuff in his more scathing reviews. The previous collections of critiques were getting a little top heavy with favorable reviews presumably to encourage people to check out some hidden gems. This book gives you a real idea of the films he slogs through on a weekly basis. As for people who are miffed because he has an honest change of opinion sometimes, the only people whose ideas never change are dead or employ expensive spin-doctors to convince you that they had that belief all along.
Rating: Summary: It's all here... Review: This thick book contains all of Ebert's reviews of movies released in the past year, as well as his weekly articles and his notes from attending film festivals such as Cannes. If you're a movie fan and would like a book to refer to when choosing videos, or want some scoop on the various festivals around the world, Ebert's yearbook (updated annually) should be what you need.
Rating: Summary: Roger Ebert reviews from 1998-20000 Review: This yearbook has reviews that Roger Ebert has written for his paper from 1998-2000. The 1998 reviews he wrote that he reviewed on his show with the late Gene Siskel and today Richard Roeper. But today I ws surpised to see that Ebert & Roeper and the movies are moving from channel 2 to channel 7. Actually I made the mssing from channel 2 yeasterday. And he will to it with Roeper in a new balcany. If you are looking for a movie good for kids then check out My Dog Skip, Stuart Little, Antz, Toy Story 2 for a start. There are aslo plenty of R rated movies, like Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and Livers of the Artic Circle, South Park, Biggger, Longer and Uncut, The Limey, and Lets Talk Sex. If you have a teen from 13-16 years and can't watch R rated movies and doesn't care for children's movies anymore then have them check out Patch Adams, Jakob the Liar, Bicentennial Man, Big Daddy. If you have a big Chicago Bulls fan then have him or check out Michael Jordan to the Max either on dvd/video or on the imax on Navy Pier. If you want any older movie that has already been reviewed in a earlier book then check out pages 827-855 for a star rating the year and the rating. There soemthing for every one.
Rating: Summary: Well written reviews, but limited movies. Review: With this being my first movie review book, I was rather dissapointed the 2000 edition only contains written reviews from the last 2.5 years or so. I found the reviews in this book to be written exceptionally well (to no surprize really). But I am always on the prowl for that one great movie that slipped by me and has since faded into the sunset umong the thousands of other movies not on the "new release" shelves. So, if you don't mind the somewhat limited format of this book, it's worth buying.
