Summary: Highly insightful, entertaining and well written.
Review: In this book, you'll be allowed a rare glimpse in a world that few ever see - the world of church burnings murder and Black Metal music. It covers this interesting subject objectively and details it thoroughly. This book supplies the reader with tons information and background and presents it in a surprisingly easy to follow and entertaining fashion. I must say, I lost countless hours of much needed sleep simply because I couldn't put the book down. Moyihan and Soderland seem to have gone to great lengths to unearth, research and arrange information on the subject, which I imagine wasn't an easy task, but it shows up in the pages. I'll look forward to seeing more from these two talented authors. Bravo and thanks for an excellent read.

Summary: Tedium Ad Nauseum
Review: The only book that I know of on this subject, so if you're interested in "Black Metal" (which I think is fascinating, sometimes hilarious, and often sickening subject) then this is the book you're going to have to get. Unfortunately this work needed some serious editing which it never got. The history of the music is good, but the book soon turns into mind-numbingly repetitive interviews with "Varg", the most notorious personality in the scene. Furthermore, the illustrations are mostly pointless. Numerous redundant photos, again of Varg, with him wearing the same blank expression in each, and dozens of little devil drawings and so on which are not connected to the text nor justified in any other way. This book should have been half as long.

Summary: Wicked to the core...
Review: Well I don't know where to begin because most everything about this book has been touched upon. However, I'd just like my five star rating to count towards the final rating because this book is captivating and in a way a psychological thriller. If you want to delve into the minds of some truly twisted individuals look no further, this book has it all. Have fun and keep banging your head!

Summary: An excellent and detailed look at a poorly covered genre
Review: I received my copy of "Lords of Chaos" a few months ago and I have read about three times. I was surprised by the excellent writing and unbiased view of a controversial scene. Moynihan and Soderlind should be commended on the job they did. Contrary to the views of a few ignorant people, the book is not fascist propaganda but takes an honest look at the Black Metal scene from its origins to the individual bands and their views. Unfortunately in this culture of "political correctness" people have become hyper-sensitive to anything that doesn't follow or adhere to their agenda. I think Moynihan deals with the subject matter in a very professional manner and neither supports nor condemns the views of certain persons, but covers them objectively to let ther reader make up his or her own mind. While as a minority I was somewhat put off by certain viewpoints expressed, it did not diminish my high praise for the book. Those who want more info can also check out certain underground magazines such as Terrorizer, Metal Maniacs and also a Norweigan zine called Slayer Mag. Also, one can investigate underground labels like Century Media, Nuclear Blast, Misanthropy, Candlelight and others for more information about certain bands and their music. Kudos and props to Moynihan and Soderlind for their superior piece of literary work. Don't believe the hype- read for yourself and make your own conclusions!!

Summary: A compendium of information and thoughtful commentary.
Review: Contrary to some rather vulgar notions, "Lords of Chaos," is *not* fascist propaganda, any more than Spandau Ballet or Joy Division made "Nazi music". Lords of Chaos is a thoughtful and well-written book about the black metal "scene" in Norway during the early 90s. The book also includes a history of music-which-incorporates-dark-images; from Robert Johnson's blues, to Venom, Black Sabbath, and on to Burzum, Emperor, and bands such as the Electric Hellfire Club. Also included are thoughts upon similar "black metal" occurences in the United States; church burnings, mind-bending metal, and an appreciation for the writings of Anton LaVey, et al. I cannot recommend this book highly enough, to anyone interested in black metal, extreme music, or extreme thought. To call such a scholarly and carefully written book "fascist propaganda," is simplistic, insipid, and downright ridiculous.

Summary: This book is purely right-wing garbage!
Review: I have been into black metal since the very beginning of the genre. I have excellent knowledge of what lead to most of the Norwegian incidents (both the church burnings & the murders), and therefore this book deeply troubles me! It seems the authors of "Lords of Chaos" are having serious problems being objective. The most obvious example is Moynihan's sympathy for Varg Vikernes and his activities - his admiration shines through in every second line, and makes him present several grave errors when it comes to the "facts" of the book.

"Lords of Chaos" is a book you should NOT buy - it's facist propaganda pretending to be objective journalism, and it should never have been published in the first place!

Summary: Easily relatable to every day life.
Review: Definatly one for those who dress in black. This book explains the actions, thoughts and motives of some of the most evil, unheard of human beings kicking around Europe.Great insight into non-Christian religions in Europe, this book could almost convert the most devout into the most demonic. Chilling. Also, does anyone whose read this see a link between some of the actions in the book and the recent London bombings?? Think about it. 666.

Summary: Varg Worship
Review: I do like Varg, I Agree with some of the Heathen Front, Idealogy, I enjoy learning the History of an Awesome Sound of Music, I love reading about history on almost any subject, but I never finished the book, I got sick of Varg and how everything was related to Varg, almost every page mentions Varg or what Varg thought on this and that, If I wanted to read Vargsmal I would have So if you Love VARG and pretty much only want to read about VARG for most of the book, buy it actually buy it for all the parts that are not VARG worship ,

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An elightning and eye opening novel, full of information.
Review: Not only does this book enlighten and provide countless chuncks of information of something only few know little about, but 'Lords of Chaos' brings to attention what no other novel on this subject has before. A exceptionally well laid out and comprehensive novel that shines the light on the subject and themes that many critics too quickly judge and condem. Metal and Satanism are linked, but without reading this, you'll never know why or how these themes have grown together and apart over the decades. 'Lords of Chaos' isn't just for Metal Heads or Satanists, it is for anyone who wishes to know more about the dark side of music that is too quickly labeled as evil.

Summary: Metal heads and the people the kill
Review: This book is the metal heads' guide to killing. I would reccomend it to all parents of teen aged boys with long hair who can't afford to send their kids to college.
