Summary: "Still no sign of land..."
Review: "That's rather a personal question, sir." "You stupid git! I meant how long have we been in the lifeboat. You've spoiled the atmosphere now!" "I'm sorry." This book is definite must reading for all serious python fans. They say that laughter is the best medicine. This book is a great stress reliever for those who have had a bad day, unless you are a person who at the end of a sentence tends to come up with the wrong fuse box. I have only read volume 2, but I'm sure volume 1 is just as good. It's best if read while playing the organ in your birthday suit. I could say more, but I'm afraid this review is getting a bit too silly.

Summary: So much more fun to see it on TV...
Review: ..but as a relaxed reading for someone who wants to learn the sketches by heart, this is the ultimate book.

Summary: Great!
Review: A great book for any Monty Python fan. Like the title said "All The Words". I got both books (1 & 2) along with the dvd set and I read along with the dvd. Also great for sketches seeing as the desribe the scene as stuff is going on.

Summary: All the words
Review: All the words. There need be no more said. This is a book full of all the words. All the words that ever mattered (besides, perhaps, some rather important ones, like "romanticism," "noradrenalin," and "trabecula," which, in fact, aren't included in this particular volume, but can be found in many other books). This amazing and comprehensive collection of the scripts of the first 23 Monty Python episodes is a must for anyone who wishes to own an amazing and comprehensive collection of the scripts of the first 23 Monty Python episodes.

Summary: What's all this then?
Review: Although I have almost memorized the entire length of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I was never that conversant with the original series. Hark! Look here. What's this? All the Words: The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus (Pantheon, 1989). Danger, danger, Will Robinson. Now I can be insufferable at parties, as I quickly memorize pertinent sections of this compendium. Now I too can say "Your Majesty is like a big jam doughnut with cream on the top," and know that the follow-up is "like a doughnut, your arrival gives us pleasure, and your departure only makes us hungry for more." Unfortunately, All the Words is only the TV series. You have to (and can, fortunately) buy the scripts for the movies separately. If that doesn't satisfy your need for the python of fun, check out Kim "Howard" Johnson's The First 20 Years of Monty Python (St. Martin's, 1989), which supplies a wonderful biography of the group as a whole, and compliments George Perry's earlier Life of Python (Little Brown, 1983).

Summary: I laughed until I stopped
Review: As a fan of MPFC since it first aired on PBS in 1973, these two volumes sort of put a cap on a 30 year fascination with the team. Maybe like me, you've watched every Python-Marathon or taped every show, but having these scripts really is the icing on the cake.

What's striking to me is the simplicity of the scripts. When you watch the episodes, the gags seem so complicated. Then to see The Dead Parrot sketch reduced to just a few pages, you realize how brilliant those guys were in terms of compression, and in terms of acting. An added plus, for me at least, was to finally see the words and phrases that I never quite "got" because they were unique to British English. From there, I logged on to a few websites on British slang and, boy, I realized what MPFC got away with...some of it was pretty raunchy. Anyway, this is two-volume set is priceless for any fan.

Summary: Even funny for those unfamiliar with the Python phenomenon
Review: Even for folks unfamiliar with Monty Python and its peculiar and veddy English appeal, this book and its companion volume ("All The Words, Volume II") are both treasures. Everything is in here--EVERYTHING. Every single bloody word from every single bloody skit! It's a lark! It's a hoot! It's a howl! It's everything every Python aficionado ever dreamed of and more.

The book is especially useful for Python lovers who've perhaps had a little trouble deciphering the accents of our beloved lads. You name it, and it's in here with every single word, every pause, every "um, yes, well" and more. As the members of Python themselves would say:

"It's satire."
"No, it isn't. This is zany madcap humour."

Summary: Probably appeals to most Monty fans!
Review: I somehow hope you're not like me, because I usually buy every book written by any of the Monty Pythons. DON'T DO LIKE I DO! It's expensive!

Sure, this book is a wonderful read, even if you already know most Monty dialogue by heart. This book will look nice next to your other Monty Python litterature, but know this. This book will most likely not last long, before you put it on the shelf and start watching the episodes again. Buy this book only if you're an insane Monty fan, in which case you probably haven't read any of these reviews anyway.

Summary: Sorry squire, I've gobbed on your carpet
Review: I suggest you sit down with some Conquistador Instant Leprosy and read both volumes of this, if you enjoy that sort of thing.
