Rating: Summary: Are you kidding me Review: I really got nothing from this book, it did nothing for me. This guy is a joke.
Rating: Summary: This is a great book Review: I was a little skeptical about reading a book of someone following Phish around but midway into the first chapter I was absolutely taken. Its not just about the band or the scene but provides an insightful tail of adventure in America. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: a crappy book for jerks Review: I was heartily dissapointed by this book. I have wanted to write a book concerning this topic and in this style, and was excited find out that one existed and was stoked to read it. However I thought the author did a horrible of capturing the scene, of trying to introduce new people to what they might expect on phish tour, or reminding old heads of what tour life is like. And franly, the writing sucks. All and all dont read this book if you are knowledgable about phish and have experienced their wonder, because reading this well be nothing but a kick in the head

Rating: Summary: Openminded when opening the book Review: I went into this book with little to no knowledge of the band or the phenomenon beyond what I know of the Dead. I expected more when I bought it. I was disappointed. The guy gave his view, but it did seem that he was miserable most of the time. I laughed HARD over the brownie incident and thought he gave some great quotes from other fans. I thought he caputered the spirit in parts, but HE, himself didn't seem to get into the spirit...other than the dancing he described. I got the impression he didn't want to act like he enjoyed too much for fear of disappointing Jill (the girlfriend). I think this would have been much more of an exciting adventure for another person, but obviously to him, this was what it was for him. I don't down him for that, but the book seems to sell because of the band, I think the spirit would have been captured by a more fun-loving person.

Rating: Summary: Wasted Time Review: I would rather read all the ingredient labels in a super market than pick up this book again. I'm not claiming to be some know-all phishhead, but I know this book has no energy and has very little to do with Phish and their music. Hate to be so negative, but this book offers very little to the reader and seems to bank on the fame of a great band.
Rating: Summary: Tail indeed. Review: I'd like to say that there's something redeemable about this release, but there isn't. It's un-informed, uninspired, and uninteresting. Gibbon clearly knows a bit about the band - but just enough to get him into trouble by saying things that illustrate how little he knows. And regardless of whether he gets it right, he doesn't take it anywhere. There's no depth, no excitement, no important reflectoin. I'd rather read what YOU, yes you reading this review, would write about your experiences on a tour, because you probably wouldn't presume to take 240 pages and ten bucks to do it, and couldn't possibly have as little to say for it.
Rating: Summary: A disappointment Review: I'm only a Phish-fan in passing, but even I found this book a keen disappointment. Narrative non-fiction can be a really wonderful way to convey a story and paint a picture. Unfortunately, in the case of this book the author forgot about the picture and wrote almost exclusively about the paintbrush. We get to hear his concerns about writing the book, his friends' suggestions for how to write the book, and the end result is a lackluster book that's less about Phish and more about the author. The author seems aware that he's doing something wrong -- he admits to not getting "in there" enough with the fans, and we don't get much insight whatsoever. The result is that the book is fun to pick up and read for a page or two -- little vignettes of travelling with Phish. But taken as a whole, it's painfully navel-gazing and uninteresting. I understand how hardcore "phans" would be disappointed -- but this book disappoints on a larger level than that. It's simply not well written, regardless of topic.
Rating: Summary: If you are a phan, this book will not tell you anything new Review: Imagine going on Phish tour with someone who complained the whole time, did not talk to anyone, did not really love the music, and could not handle eating a brownie. That is what this book is like. I would have loved to see the shows that this guy went to, and I was hoping for more POSITIVE descriptions of the scene and the music. Well, Gibbon just complained and talked about randomess instead. But, if you are bored, it is interesting to read. I wouldn't buy it though, because you won't want to read it again.
