Rating: Summary: A must-have for any *true* Billy Joel aspirator. Review: "Aspirator" is not someone that breathes, it's someone that aspires, duh. It's a beautiful book with the REAL notes played - not the watered-down stuff in the Billy Joel "Complete" volumes. BUY THIS NOW. You will not regret it. Really.
Rating: Summary: insane Review: Don't buy this book unless you are committed to learning the music of B.Joel. This goes note for note through 15 great songs. Learn these songs, and amaze your friends! Wow yourself! But I warn you, Billy isn't an average piano player. He's an insane piano player! This book rocks.
Rating: Summary: ***** Review: How all music books should be,.....best seen to date!!!!!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BILLY JOEL KEYBOARD BOOK Review: I have numerous Billy Joel books and this one is by far the most authentic. Unlike some of the other complilations this book does remove the vocal line from the piano part like it is supposed to be. It would be great if "Hal Leonard" would put together the many other great Billy Joel songs in another book like this. Nice work!!
Rating: Summary: For Pianists Who Love To Sing Review: If I had to choose one modern day piano book to take with me, and that includes my Best Jazz Standards book, my Queen book, and much more, I'd choose this one. This book actually inspired me to go buy more Billy Joel CD's. When I played some of the songs of Billy Joel's that I hadn't yet heard, I loved them and immediately had to hear the real thing.
The variety is outstanding also. Thanks, of course, to Billy Joel's creativity. The book includes some of his great romantic songs like "And So It Goes" and "She's Got A Way". And the great upbeat ones like "My Life" and "Tell Her About It". Some of my favorite ones are the ones with the cool piano licks. For instance, "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" has one of the coolest piano solos ever, and of course "Piano Man" is one that will impress friends because everyone has heard it. "Allentown" is amazing also. Well, they're all amazing.
Many reviewers have mentioned how the book is great because it is the real piano accompaniment, not as a piano solo. That means you or your friends sing all the great Billy Joel lyrics and have a party around the piano, where the parties should be. :)
Rating: Summary: Many of the songs don't stand up by themselves Review: If you want to be able to play some of what you "hear" (which is not always necessarily what you "see"), then this is a good place to start. The only problem is that what you "hear" is not always full-sounding enough to be played on solo piano. (NOW I see why he draws the ire of so many critics.)It is probably better to get some arrangements of the songs in other books and merge them with parts that aren't in the songs as played. One good thing is that this book is complete with all the solos and intros (like in "Piano Man," which a person would have to try to figure out for a LONG time to get it right-- not many people use Dm7 and Ddim7 chords with such so many grace notes.) But, with a little imagination, this book will give you lots of fun practice.
Rating: Summary: Hours of fun at the piano pretending to be Billy Joel Review: Pump out that Piano Man solo! That's why these books are good. There's no section too difficult, there's nothing held back. No stupid interpretations of melody lines - this is the real deal. In terms of sheer enjoyment, nothing beats playing transcriptions of songs, especially ones you like. So to sit down and play 'Piano Man' from start to finish exactly like Billy Joel (solo included), or 'New York State of Mind' with the jazzy intro and the beautifully voiced chords - it's a real treat. Get this book!
Rating: Summary: Authentic! Features 14 hits and Honesty Review: The Best book so far to impress friends, out of the Bruce Springsteen greatest hits or the ultimate Elton John Collection. The Billy Joel Authentic keyboard is to play your favourite songs JUST as the artist recorded them IN KEYBORD obviously though it features guitar chords. The Introductions to most of the songs are exactly the same, best for solo playing and singing isn't very hard at all. Songs Include Allentown And so it Goes Captain Jack Honesty Just the way you are Movin out anthony's song My life New York State of Mind Piano Man Pressure Scenes from an Italian restaurant She's always a woman Streetlife serenader She's got a way The Stranger
Rating: Summary: Excellent, probably the best piano book I own. Review: The different style of the book in which it's what he plays rather than banal arranged sheet music makes it wonderful to play. For someone who can't play jazz/rock songs by ear, it's a great tool for some really fun playing. Not much to say other than no billy joel should live without it.
Rating: Summary: incredible Review: This book is amazing. I would love to have other authentic transcriptions. The only depressing part was that once I managed to get halfway decent playing the piano man, I saw Billy Joel perform it in concert, and he plays an even more amazing version than the recorded one. I'd like to see the transcription of that. This book is really outstanding. I can now play along with the albums, and it sounds perfect.
