Rating: Summary: More Fun than a Barrel of Donkeys Review: And how they got into the barrel, I'll never know. (Rim Shot) This book has everyone from Groucho to Seinfeld and every joke is a gem. Just leaf through, pick a topic and you're guarranteed a dozen laughs! Not only do I have a lot of fun reading the book but I also use it to get over writer's block. Rating: Summary: I gathered jokes from alternative through classic comedians Review: There was a sea-change in American standup comedy after World War II, when it truly became a pop-culture art form of merit. Suddenly, standup transmogrified from the jokey-jokes of old-style Catskill-type comics like Henny Youngman to the more-conversational, confrontational, and socially conscious material of Lenny Bruce. The 1950's (and the beginning of the Civil Rights movement) saw the first generation of black standup comedians who didn't have to play dumb in order to entertain a main stream, white audience -- such as Godfrey Cambridge and Bill Cosby. A few women comedians even squeaked through in this decade, (Phyllis Diller, notably) although they were still confined to the stereotype prison of "gawd, I'm ugly" or "housewife" jokes. This was my parents generation of comedians, and I caught the comedy bug from their rabid interest. I've followed comedy for over 40 years, and the material in JOKE SOUP covers this range (although not comprehensively). But I've especially gathered from the current, alternative, and the breaking wave of new, young comedians -- including names you may not be familiar with. Yet.
Rating: Summary: Joke Stew provides a hardy laugh! Review: This book is a must have for aspiring comics and comedy lovers alike. Brown's book is a tool that inspires as well as guides those interested in the art of joke writing. The book includes a wide range of talent from legendary comics like Bill Cosby to the up and coming comedic stars of tomorrow. If nothing else the book allows the reader the opportunity to learn what makes these neurotic people tick.

Rating: Summary: I'm Speechless Review: This book was a great disappointment. I bought it and sent it to my husband who loves jokes, this book is full of one liners that are very old out of date and childish. Nothing like I thought it would be. If you are looking for a good joke book that will keep you entertained this is not it. One of the jokes was,"Why did the chicken cross the road?" answer," to get to the other side." I think you would get the point and I think that is enough said!
Rating: Summary: Now this is STAND-UP!.....No 3 guys walk into a bar jokes! Review: We all know "Joke Books" suck. This is not one of those! These are compiled one liners of some big name, and not so big name comedians. They are categorized by subject well. I'm a comedy writter and aspiring comedian myself and this is a cant miss book, even if you're a Gallagher fan.
Rating: Summary: clever, funny Review: Yes, most of the jokes are funny, most are clever, great job of compiling this obviously copyrighted material, negotiating with authors... It must be a lot of work but the result does beat your average Internet joke site with 1 funny joke out of 100. Here you may laugh every other page.2 complaints, big and small. Big complaint: political bias. Pushing an agenda. All jokes in "God" section are anti-god (ok by me since I am an agnostic) and in "Guns" section are anti-gun (not ok by me, an NRA member and pro-second), but stand up comedians probably do write mostly for leftist-liberal crowd so that should be ok. Small complaint: icky title and cover. Yak.
