Rating: Summary: PITCHING IN THE BIG LEAGUES!!!!! Review: An easy (and entertaining!) read. This book explains step-by-step how to contact production companies and studios, make appointments, and sell TV and movie ideas. I don't live in LA or New York. It's encouraging to know that I don't have to.
Rating: Summary: easy and fun Review: I hate reading and I'm not even in "the industry," but I really liked this book. A friend forced me to read it, and I couldn't put it down. My head has always been full of a thousand ideas and plots; it just never occured to me that I could actually do anything with them--until now. Now, I have no excuse.
Rating: Summary: A MUST FOR WOULD-BE FILMMAKERS Review: I've worked in the entertainment industry for many years and still panic each time I go into a pitch meeting! Staying calm, organizing my thoughts, conveying my excitement about the project, etc... is difficult when combating nerves. This book breaks down the pitch process into manageable stages: finding an idea, writing a well-structured treatment, making phone calls to the right people, booking meetings, pitching the idea, and even negotiating payment and/or credit. Great investment for ten bucks!
Rating: Summary: Pitch-O-Matic! Review: Seriously-- Excellent book. Very helpful. Funny. Easy to read. Lots of bullet points. This one will stay on my desk, right next to my computer.
Rating: Summary: easy and fun Review: This is a fun, easy to read book. Makes you feel like you've got an actual shot at a successful pitch. Really useful, practical guide. Gives you all the information of a good how-to textbook without reading like one.
Rating: Summary: Pitching Hollywood - a must have! Review: This is an excellent book to walk a newcomer (and old timer) through the exasperating but exhilerating process of getting a script before the right people.
Rating: Summary: Beware, folks, you can't protect ideas. Review: Though this book contains some good info on how to pitch, you really must be aware that ideas can easily be stolen, or "given" to other writers and there is no copyright protection for ideas. You are better off writing a complete script, even on spec, and getting it registered than just giving your ideas away.
Rating: Summary: A guide to navigating the market for movie writing Review: Written by two accomplished producers, Jonathan Koch and Robert Kosberg with the additional assistance of Tanya Meurer Norman, Pitching Hollywood: How to Sell Your TV and Movie Ideas is a no-nonsense guide to navigating the competitive and treacherous market for movie writing. From learning how to create a great idea, to what goes into a good pitch, how long a pitch should be, how to protect one's idea, when a full screenplay is better than just an idea, how pitching a movie differs from pitching a TV show, and much more, Pitching Hollywood is an absolute "must-have" for anyone seriously dedicated to selling one's ideas and writings, and highly recommended for anyone considering movie/TV writing as a career. The sales tips, tricks, and techniques, while of course tailored for the world of TV and movies, also include a lot of solid general information valuable for learning to pitch anything to anyone, making Pitching Hollywood an all-around valuable read.
