Rating: Summary: The bassist's 'Bathroom Reader' Review: For the casual reader, the serious bookworm, and everybody in between - this should appeal to everyone who is interested or intruiged by the evolution of music with the Electric Bass. It all started here, and rock music as we know it would never be the same without the instrument pioneered 50 years ago by Leo Fender. This book spans, in detail, the life (and death) of Fender basses... from the prominent Precision Bass, to the unique Jazz Bass, and even the concept 1970's 5-string short-scale bass which would never be seen again in the market. It will show you photographs of the Fender team in action... and much more. In the back of the book, you will find descriptive explainations of the changes the basses underwent in the 50 years of existance... right down to the Tuning Keys, Bridges, and Decals. This book is a treasure to me - if I ever lost it, I would buy another one without hesitation.

Rating: Summary: A GREAT resource for Vintage Fender bass info! Review: This book is the Vintage Fender Bass Handbook. The text and information is very easy to read and understand, most of it is in clearly captioned detailed photos. It covers all the models from the beginning to present, the book features co-author Albert Molinaro's unbelievable bass collection, the photos are worth the book price alone! This is really great if you are into Fender bases or vintage Fender guitars, and who isn't! Out of all my Guitar related books, this may be one of the easiest to View, Use and Enjoy! BUY IT - YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!
Rating: Summary: Great book, perfect for drooling over vintage basses. Review: This is the bible of the classic fender bass devotee. Fantastic pictures, detailed text. However, a few important bass designs are missing, the JP-90 and the Performer to mention a few, and also the semi acoustic Coronado bass are not mentioned in the book. Otherwise an orgy of old collectables and trivia.
Recommended!
Rating: Summary: At last- the story is definitively told Review: This lavishly illustrated and very informative history of this important family of instruments was appropriately published to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the introduction of the Fender Precision Bass, and this excellent book does its subject justice. It traces in some detail the evolution of the Fender bass and is very lavishly illustrated and very well written, without an overabundance of text. The colour photography is stunning. It is indeed a feast for the eyes, and it has also a section on small details like logos, tuning machines, bridge types, decals, etc. as well as a look at the production of the bass. By far and not surprisingly it deals with Precision and Jazz Basses, with some reference to the company's lesser models including the Bass VI, -5-strings and Mustangs but with no reference at all to the Musicmaster or Coronado Bass .In addition, the company's 'offshore' production, all nineteen years of it, is only summarily dealt with, and while the book rightly honours the American legacy of this instrument, none of its line of basses manufactured overseas features in the photography. This is a pity, as these instruments kept the company going for quite some time, bore the Fender logo and were of very high quality. (I would rate my 1983 Japanese-made Precision Bass at least the equal of if not better than any US P-Bass of that year) For example, on page 91 we see a photo of a '75 Jazz reissue 'now offered' as 'an American-made' reissue. What about the excellent Japanese '75 reissue that preceded it?! Not a word, either, about the company's Mexican basses manufactured just across the border!Klaus Blasquiz'book , despite its shortcomings, referred in some detail to non USA Fenders. That apart, this book is a very welcome addition to the literature available on these instruments and is beautifully produced.Well done, Messrs Black and Molinaro!
Rating: Summary: The F-Bass A great picture show! Review: Well, lots of beautiful USA Precision and Jazz basses in this book. Wel done on glossy paper. Nice chapter with details to indentify your USA bass. Real value for money! If you own a P or J Fender bass, you should own this book. The only set back is little attention is payed to the Mustang. Hollow bodies and the Music Master don't appear at all in this book. When they're in I'll buy the second edition too.
