Summary: Even for a non-drummer, this book rocks!
Review: ...because it's one-of-a-kind in its scope and structure. Anyone who owns a set of drums (or drums on the steering wheel of his car, like me) should own this book.

Review: I have had the privilege of studying with the author Jason Gianni for the past 6 years. He has brought me from a beginner to an established 35 student drum teacher in this short time. I owe it all to him! If you don't live in the San Francisco Bay Area and can't take lessons from Jason directly, you NEED to buy this book. It will show you almost anything you want to learn on the drum set and will definitely improve your historical knowledge and playing ability. I now teach out of this book and all my students love it. I hope you find it as helpful as Jason has been to me. Take Care!

Summary: A must-have for students and gigging drummers alike!
Review: Since I started playing the drumset I've been waiting for someone to complete the monumental task of compiling every known style of set playing in one book. But Mick Berry and Jason Gianni have gone far beyond simply transcribing over 160 styles (about 400 including variations):

They have included historical perspectives, background information, recorded examples (with and without click tracks), and put together a listening list with suggested albums and artists for every style.

There is a very helpful chapter on types of fills and appropriate use of them in each style, including references to famous recordings. There is even a section explaining appropriate tuning and muffling for a drummer playing in a given style.

I really can't stress enough how much detail is contained in this book. I'm a junior high and high school percussion teacher and this is a great reference tool for understanding and explaining different grooves, and I'll be sure to keep it handy when gigging.

Highest recommendation!

Summary: An Amazing Compilation
Review: This book has a staggering amount of information in it, but it has the information arranged in such a way that it is not overwhelming. It is an informative fun read that thoroughly explains the history of how each style came to be. I especially like the latin section and the explanations of the subdivisions of odd times. I highly recommend this book!

As a professional drummer I know that I will be referring to this virtual encylopedia often! Thank you for taking the time to write this Jason & Mick.
