Summary: This book would be great EXCEPT
Review: I got hooked on pixel puzzles after trying them in the book that Amazon sells called, "The Mind Challenge Puzzle Book". While it is edited by different people and has a different publishing company, beware! The pixel puzzles in "The Mind Challenge" are EXACTLY the same (no more, no less) as the ones in "Perplexing Pixel Puzzles"! So, I would reccomend the "Mind-Sharpening Pixel Puzzles" book instead, if you have already done the ones in the "Mind Challenge" book.

Summary: where am I?
Review: If you were like me prior to buying this book, you may not even know what a pixel puzzle is: it's a diagram (like a grid) that has numbers along the top and left side which you use to figure out which squares should be colored in and which whould be left blank. By correctly filling in the diagram you create a picture with the shaded blocks. The first few pages of the book give a great introduction with examples to get you started. I didn't think I was a "puzzle person" but I LOVE this book. An easy puzzle may take 10 minutes. Most take several hours minimum. I think this puzzle book would appeal to anyone who has a logical mind. It's perfect for someone with a computer programming background, but don't let that scare you away! It's actually a really fun puzzle book. My kids see how much I enjoy it and want me to find a "Kids version". I never liked word-puzzles, and consider this more of a math-puzzle. Try it!

Summary: Very challenging and addictive puzzles
Review: Pixel puzzles are very fun and addictive logic puzzles. Perplexing Pixel Puzzles is the most challenging of all. I can't get enough! Pixel puzzles are considered math puzzles, but as long as you can count, you'll be fine. They don't require any reading, so they're great to do while you're listening to TV or a book on tape. Nonetheless, they really work your brain. They require a logical, step-by-step approach, and are very satisfying.

I am a true addict. I have tried every book I could find with this type of puzzle. Mind sharpening Pixel Puzzles, and Perplexing Pixel Puzzles are clearly the best. They are much more challenging than any of the other puzzle books of this type, and the pictures are more interesting. I bought them two years ago, and I was hooked. After I finished them, I tried others, but nothing else can really compare. I just ordered my second copy of each of them!

If you're generally good at challenging logic puzzles, you will love this book. Most of the puzzles will take hours, or even days! They can get downright infuriating. Some required a little trial and error and a lot of erasing. If you prefer shorter, quicker puzzles, then I would recommend Art Puzzles by Number by Kathy Weaver. The Games Magazine Paint by Numbers book is good for beginners. The puzzles in the Nonograms book by Non Ishida are good, but the book is very small and the paper quality is very poor. I kept poking my pencil through the paper, and it was hard to keep the book open to the right page.

Mind sharpening Pixel Puzzles, and Perplexing Pixel Puzzles are the only ones I've seen that are spiral bound (which really helps). The pages are larger, the paper quality is excellent, and the resulting pictures are attractive. They cost less than many of the others too! How can you beat that?

Summary: great entertainment
Review: The puzzles provides lots of challenging hours. I admire the detail of the designs, as well.

Summary: where am I?
Review: While I love doing this type of puzzle, I find the grid lines in this book to be so light and the squares so small that it is difficult to work the puzzles. I would recommend Games Magazine's Paint by Numbers over this book only for this reason. It has darker grid lines and larger squares. Although the puzzles do not have as many squares as these puzzles do, I find them challenging and fun without the frustration of loosing your place and coloring in squares in the wrong row or column.
