Rating: Summary: An Obscure Gem Review: Humor, strong characterization and excellent artwork made 'Rudy' a masterpiece of the comics genre. It had a confident projection of its peculiar world and the interaction between the animals and humans was credible and engaging. This rare book captures the black-and-white dailies of an obscure series and is the only Overgard collection that I am aware of. It is a joy and one only regrets that the superb Sunday color strips have not also been collected.

Rating: Summary: Rudy in Hollywood Review: What a wonderful book!"Rudy" was a comic strip creation of the late William Overgard. Rudy is a talking Chimpanzee who is also a veteran of Vaudeville a la George Burns. He is a snappy dresser and has come to Hollywood to seek opportunities in the 'new' show business. The arcane references to Hollywood, the old stars and the typical Hollywood eccentrics that this talking ape encounters make for laugh-out-loud moments as well as thoroughly-satisfying smirking moments. The strip did not live long because the funny page public did not 'get it' but editors loved the strip and regrettably had to terminate it. Oh yes. Rudy lives in a bungalow with Bonita, a talking parrot who played the piano in a tropical reviewin the 40's. The critics raved that she 'flew' over the keys as she sang "Tico-Tico". The art was full and rich. The charcters were creative. The storyline was Letterman-clever. The satire was dead on. One of a kind.
