Rating: Summary: PRETTY GOOD Review: As a drummer, and a metallica fan(especially of Ulrich), I enjoyed this book. The only negative thing about this book is that one of the beats is wrong on the CD. This Dino guy also talks a lot, but that is another issue. This book has beats in different sections(like Double Bass, Ensemble Figures, Drum Fills, etc.) from the songs of "...And Justice for all." The songs are: One, Eye of the Beholder, Blackened, and many others. My favorite sections were Double Bass, Odd Time Signatures, and Ensemble Figures. They can be hard, but are fun. This book is short but was good. I learned a lot more about metallica, and how to play some of their stuff with this book. I recommend this to any drummer out there.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Horrible Review: Lars is easily the most over-rated drummer of all-time, and this book is nothing more than a study of him. A buddy of mine had it, and I almost laughed when I found out that Lars had a book dedicated to him.
First: Lars is called a 'power drummer'...what they mean by this is that he has no grasp of dynamics whatsoever. His double bass playing live has *always* been horrible, and his technique with his hands would develop tendonitis in a young drummer in a heartbeat.
Second: This book just isn't well-done. Maybe it would be better if the drumming it was dedicated to had even a modicum of creativity, but you cannot learn anything from this book unless you have absolutely no drumming experience whatsoever.
Get something that is going to bust your chops...look for something from Marcos Minneman (Extreme Interdependence is great). You need something that makes you work, and this book absolutely will not.
And now for my little lash-out at Lars. The guy is not an artist. He's a metronome that can't keep a steady beat.
