Summary: The best intermediate book around for low-limit play
Review: Again, Mr. Nelson has a winner! This is my third book review of his writings. I am a professional poker player and have found these books by Mr. Nelson to be exceptional.

As I understand it, this is the second book of three books on Texas Hold 'Em. In this book, Mr. Nelson introduces the important concept of reading other players. This so crucial for becoming a winning player! You have to be able to identify when you have the better hand and when to throw your hand away. He also writes about how to interpret a raise. Is the raiser trying to tell you he has a better hand, is he/she telling you that he/she is on a flush or straight draw? These and many other considerations must be considered.

Mr. Nelson, I am delighted that you have chosen to write books on poker!

Summary: An Important Poker Resource
Review: Andy Nelson writes clear, brief treatises on poker. This book is intended for the player who already knows the basics of Texas Hold 'Em, but still has trouble winning consistently.

What you get is important generalized advice about playing Texas Hold'Em. What you don't get is hand-by-hand analyses, lists of starting hands by position, or tables of probabilities. Get another book for those.

Get this book to make the right choices in non-quantifiable situations and to know why those choices are right. Get this book to win more (or lose less).

Summary: Very Informative
Review: Hey, I am a 16 year old junior in high school and have been playing cards for the last few months w/my friends on low limit games. I am interested in getting into bigger games but not before I have enough knowledge of the game. This book dramatically helped with my decision making skills at the poker table, and it has made it easier for me to decide when to fold and when to hang tough. I recommend this book for a player like me, one who's looking for improvement.Buy this book if you wanna increase ur winnings!

Summary: Hold Em Intermediate
Review: Hi there, I consider myself a strong intermediate "Hold Em" player. I finished last year with a very very nice profit. Almost all of that profit I attribute to the books I have read by Andy Nelson. His Book One got me started where he explained the basics of "Texas Hold 'Em, Then I bought his Intermediate book and discovered more secrets and ideas that work at the table. I got his Advanced book in October and this book has enabled me to average more than double what my hourly rate was. I was having trouble with my emotional control until his Advanced book really made sense to me and I was able to change. Poker is an emotional game and it is easy to lose control. Since that book came to my home and I read it, my hourly rate has increaed. I have recently read a few chapter of another book by Mr Nelson that were great. That book is 101 WAYS TO WIN!!!

Summary: A poker teacher writes a review
Review: I have taught poker for going on to 14 years. For the last nine years I have used books by Andy Nelson as textbooks. I do that because they provide the best and clearest examples for learning the game, especially Texas Hold 'em. The feedback I get from the students is that these books are short and great primers. I start the students out with Book One, and then go to this Intermediate book. By the end of the course, they advance to the Advanced book. Also the price is reasonable. The amount of solid material they get from these books if incredible.
At the end of the course, I also suggest that they each buy Nelson's book, POKER: 101 WAYS TO WIN.

Summary: Fast read, but out-dated.
Review: The best thing about this book is that it shouldn't take anyone w/a basic understanding of Hold 'Em more then 1 hour to read this tome in it's entirety (72 pages, incl. glossary, large type and lots of 'clip-art' quality illustrations). On the downside, the information and strategy presented in this book are simplistic and somewhat out of date when the original 1987 publication date is taken into consideration. I would recommend this book more for the seasoned player who may enjoy this breezy little read for it's nostalgia value, but for those still learning the game there are much better, more contemporary alternatives out there.
