Rating: Summary: I love this book! Review: A great bass book. I enjoy playing along with the band on the CD included with this book. The lessons are very easy to understand, too.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: I've been totally impressed by this collection, a real credit to the author. I typically don't give a rip about country music but figured that's all the more reason to study it, so I purchased this. The CD accompaniment is first-rate, the variations in style according to performer and sub-genres really eye-opening. What really distinguishes this book, however, are the short essays on musicianship, studio recording, band etiquette, gear suggestions, etc., that intersperse the musical selections. For those with little or no recording or band experience this is really helpful, and ten years down the road you'll really appreciate the author's candor and common sense. This is easily the most well-rounded bass instruction book I've found, but one warning: the author doesn't consider this a beginner's book. For instance, there's no indications or commentary on fingerings--he expects you to know or to find it elsewhere. But the material is not difficult, not simplistic either--I think you'll be really satisfied with the education this has to offer.
Rating: Summary: A helpful book Review: This book CD really helped my Blues playing. It's easy to play, yet these are the real basslines that will work on my gigs. I highly recommend this book and the other books by this author.
Rating: Summary: Great examples of walking bass lines. Review: This is one of the first bass books I bought when I first started to study the electric bass. I bought it, not because I was a big country fan, but because I thought I could handle the music. As I started working on the material, I began to become more curious about the music itself and started listening to some of the artists recommended. I've been listening ever since. I'm now a big Patsy Cline, Hank Williams and Willie Nelson fan. I knew of them before this, of course, but I had never really given them a serious listen. I'm listening now. Highly recommended.
