Rating: Summary: Definitive work on television westerns Review: A masterpiece of research and delivery. This is a book I keep out and enjoy referring to every time I watch a western on TV. The unexpected benefit from this book occurs when friends notice it on the table. I thought I knew everything about people I have known for years, but this book starts conversations into childhood favorites that are truly enlightening and very enjoyable. A must have for anyone who has every watched a TV western of owned a cap gun.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE MOST THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE BOOKS ON THE SUBJECT Review: MR. D'ANGELO HAS BROUGHT A WEALTH OF PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE AND WARMTH ON THE SUBJECT INTO HIS WRITING; HE HAS COMPLETELY AND EXHAUSTIVELY RESEARCHED THE BACKGROUNDS OF ALL OF THE CHARACTERS AND THE WEAPONS, AND DISCUSSES THEM WITH OPEN FAMILIARITY. FOR THOSE RAISED DURING THE 50'S AND 60'S, THIS IS A TRIP DOWN TV AND THE MOVIES'S MEMORY LANE. THIS BOOK IS OBVIOUSLY A LABOR OF LOVE, AND IT TRULY SHOWS. A GREAT ADDITION TO ANY COLLECTOR'S LIBRARY, AND GREAT FOR THE NOSTALGIA BUFFS!
Rating: Summary: A book for the "cowboy" that lives in all of us! Review: The correct and full title of my book is "Television's COWBOYS, GUNFIGHTERS & CAP PISTOLS". This book of memories encompasses three areas. (1) the first deals with the biographies and history of many of America's true western heros of the "Old West" and the "Wild West". Some of these are Annie Oakley, Buffalo Bill, Jesse James, Billy the Kid, and of course, famous lawmen like Wild Bill Hickok, Pat Garrett and Wyatt Earp. There are also many lesser known but just as important real western characters such as Texas John Slaughter, Judge Roy Bean, Elfego Baca, the Sundance Kid, and so on. (2) the second phase of my book deals with the "golden age of TV Westerns" that were popular in the 1950's and 1960's. Some of TV's greatest shows of the western era include Gunsmoke, TV's longest running series ever! Favorites such as Have Gun, Will Travel, Bonanza, Wagon Train, Rawhide, and a total of 77 western characters, both "real" and "reel" will bring back memroies of those wonderful growing up years when we all copied our heroes and looked up to them - men like Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, The Lone Ranger and Hopaling Cassidy. It's a book of memories of a gentler America. This brings us to (3) the cap pistols, holster sets and cap rfiles named to these western characters that we all tried to emulate! Cowboys, Cowgirs, Gunfighters, Desperadoes, from Annie Oakley to Zorro, they rode into our lives and left a lasting impre- ssion that is an American phenomenon. Imagine the thrill of getting your own double holster set with a pair of Roy Rogers cap guns to blast away the varmints! Cap guns, cap rifles, and holsters sets of all kinds are fully described, identified, and beautifully photographed. This is a book that TV western historians, real old west affecionadoes and cap gun collectors will NOT be able to put down. So, my pardners, slap on that leather, twirl your six-shooters and ride back into the sunset of the 1950's.... 288 pages; 8 1/2 by 11, over 500 color photographs and over 300 black & white photos, many never before published. A gift that anyone who ever grew up or remembers the 1950's will treasure forever !! Happy Trails and Happy Memories! Rudy A. D'Angelo, The Author.
Rating: Summary: RETURN TO THOSE THRILLING DAYS OF YESTERYEAR! Review: This is not just a book about toy cap pistols, it is a time machine. Not only does Mr. D'angelo present the cap pistols of our youth but he reveals the actors who played the part on television. A fact filled, exhaustive research of a love he shares with us. I had forgotten many of the toys he describes. Each page brought back memories of a childhood where honor and truth was the spoken word of the cowboy. So fans of the 50's and 60's westerns, return to those thrilling days of yesteryear when all boys wore their six shooters with pride and rode into the sunset.....
