Rating: Summary: So You Wanna Lose Your Money! Review: I wish they allowed for 0 stars. John Patrick is not an idiot. He has mad a good living off of gambling. Not by playing, but by telling people what they want to hear, that blackjack is a beatable game that can beaten with little or no math skills and no scientific approach. If you do not count cards using a proven method such as Hi-Lo, K/O, AOII, High-OptII, UPC, etc (John Patricks hunch method from his Card Counting books is utter nonsense) you can not gain an edge over the house. Money management can not help you win. The cards have no memory of wins or loses, if you bet more after you win, less after your lose, or vice versa you have the same odds if you had just bet the same. If you would like a good book that can help you at least break even (you will never get rich from BJ) try Knock-Out Blackjack by Fuchs and Vancura.

Rating: Summary: No Nonsense Guide Review: John Patrick has been a favorite of mine for nearly 20 years. His no nonsense, no bull style hits home with some of the best advice you'll find on gambling. And, more importantly, he shows you how to handle yourself and your money in the casino. He also blows holes in the "math-magician" approach so many people are taught. For example, he explains, in logical detail, why "always split aces and eights" is not always such a good idea. If you want to learn gambling, learn from John Patrick.
Rating: Summary: great -- for the average player Review: No one said this book is for the expert. "Blackjack" is for the guys and dolls that go to a casino 2-3 times a year, 2-5 days a trip. For us, the short term is the only thing that matters. The "expert play" in the other books absolutely does cover the long term, but I'll never reach those stats in my life and therefore need to do what I can to help myself in the short term.John Patrick uses a distinctive style of humor to teach the basics of Blackjack (and craps, pai-gow, sports betting, etc) in a manner that will stay with you. He'll let you know why you should always hit your hard 16 against a dealer 7. Yes, if you go to a casino daily or weekly or even monthly, maybe you should consider a more mathematical book to cover your long term play but for most of us Patrick's book will cover us very nicely.

Rating: Summary: This book teaches you MONEY MANAGEMENT Review: The date is 8/10/98 and with great amusement I read the comments of people who pan my books. I teach you how to cut losses, manage your money, accept small returns and become a successful player,The Basic Strategy handed down thru the years has NOT worked for people getting killed at the tables. My methods are geared to cut losses. You can knock me from here to eternity and I would not change one line of my suggestions...because they work. You don't like them? Then keep contributing to the profits of the house. My systems work!!!! JOHN PATRICK
Rating: Summary: EXELLENT BOOK Review: The money management is always his main thrust and needs to be taken to heart;but his regression system has changed my gambling from consistently losing to consistently breaking even or making small wins.I highly recommend this book for the beginner, even the old hands might pick up a thing or two.
Rating: Summary: The best book I've read for a money management system. Review: This book has taught me how to be a consistent winner at blackjack. with loss limits it has kept me from getting killed at a hot table.Hit your loss limit and move on to another table. This book has made me a big winner. I have made a lot of believers in this way to play in that we go out to vegas and play as a team on a table and we have yet to lose. thank you John Patrick.
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC Review: This book is just that FANTASTIC. I read this book before stepping inside a casino and thank god I did. Johns money managment and disipline theory are the best I've seen. Also disagree with other reviewers opinion on his basic strategy. While its on the conservative side it will cut down your losses drastically. Beginners and veterans both can learn alot about gambling from this book. His regression method of betting is better than anything I have read.
Rating: Summary: Learn Money management Review: This book must be taken with a grain of salt. Patrick differs from basic stategy based on short term results. The majority disagree with this practice. The best thing about this book is its' money management system. Patrick teaches a conservative money management system that helps gain small but consistent profits. My sugesstion is get a different book if you want to learn basic strategy, but get this book for its' money management system.
