Rating: Summary: "Plantation Princess" is a delight! Review: "Plantation Princess" is a delight! One does not have to hale from the South to appreciate (or recognize for that matter) the endearing eccentricities of Aunt Cappy and the real "characters" who occupy Ms. Mann's tales. The account of the one-bosomed ladies is reason enough to buy this little book.Bring on the next installment!!
Rating: Summary: Underimpressed Review: After reading all of the "rave" reviews from other readers, I must say I couldn't wait to read this book. I read it in one sitting, and I waited for the "laugh outloud" moments, I was ready to giggle. I was only slightly amused. I am from the South and love stories about growing up in the South. We all have our wonderfully eccentric family members that we love to talk about, but I was totally unimpressed with this writer's ability to engage me in the story. It was NOT even close to entertaining.

Rating: Summary: Southern-Fried Humor Review: Having grown up in Meridian, Mississippi, I felt right at home from page 1. It made me laugh out loud and homesick for the characters who could have been my relatives. The scene where the men gathered around the trunk of a car to share Christmas cheer was straight out of my family history. Everyone, including my grandmother, knew what was going on but pretended not to notice. Thanks for reminding me of my roots and the happy, innocent upbringing that shaped my character through faith, friendship, family values and humor.

Rating: Summary: Plantation Princess from Another Planet Review: I ordered a copy of Plantation Princess from Another Planet recently. It arrived at my office, and I tore into the package. I immediately started reading it, and began laughing outloud until I was crying! I read passages to my coworkers, and soon had everyone in stitches. I went home that night and did a "reading" for my wife. She soon was doubled over, too. With "Princess", Louise G. Mann has captured the essence of growing up in the South in a delightful and very amusing way. You'll find yourself unable to put it down as you read about the escapades of life in Shumard, Arkansas. This very affordable little book makes the perfect gift for any occasion from birthdays to bridal showers; graduation to get well wishes. Read Plantation Princess from Another Planet with a box of tissues nearby. You'll need to mop up all those tears of laughter!

Rating: Summary: All About the Memories Review: If you are from the Delta, like me, you'll tune right in to these stories. Mann's characters will take on the faces of folks you knew back home and memories will surface like the bubbles in your grits. Readers from other parts of the country (and even Southerners who don't know the Delta) will startle at the lively cast of characters that live beneath the surface calm of Mississippi River gentility. They'll get memories ready-made, like the hapless Sara Lee in this tale. For a quick read that brings chuckles and laughter, grab this book.
Rating: Summary: Very funny - a great slice of life Review: If you want a funny, sweet, memoir of what growing up in the Delta Country is like this is it. A bit tongoue in cheek, a Bit Dave Barry on iced tea. You can read everything from how to put out fires in farmland to how to stick your little cousin in a drawere. Well-written, humorous, and the illustrations exert a certain charm. f you are from the mid-south, you will definitely be able to relate, but even if you are not, or especially if you are not, you will get a funny insight into life from a different perspective than you are used to.
Rating: Summary: "Princess" is a hoot! Review: Louise Mann's stories of growing up in the Arkansas delta run the gamut from up-beat to howlingly funny, though she occasionally addresses serious subjects, as well. The fourth generation to live on a cotton, soybean and rice plantation in eastern Arkansas, Mann's childhood was spent terrorizing city cousins, shunning the convention of becoming a "plantation princess" (think: officiating at tea parties) and observing the wacky behavior of neighbors, parents and relatives. Not everyone is blessed with an eccentric childhood, but Mann brings hers to life through lively story-telling and a love of her subjects.
