Summary: beautifuly written, but the ending?????could of been better!
Review: I am an avid reader and rider. I read it all in one day!! This book protrayed much of my life, the life I love and wouldn't trade for the world. Sadly I say, the ending was....If I had know, I would of never read the book. Life is so full of unhappy endings, I wonder why this author thought he must fit into the norm, when his writing and insight far surprassed it. Until the last 10 pages or so, I thought I had a kindred spirit, as I know I am not alone as a whisperer, long before I knew there was a name for it. Life's too short for endings like that, and theres still so much to learn, experience and enjoy. Same with love. I have not as of yet found mine, but i'm only 30 and I've been a "whisperer" for over 18yrs. Still, the book was next to none. I would appreciate imput from the author if possible, though I know highly unlikely, to find where he found all his knowlege and insight. We are a rare breed as I learned early, but my horses are next to n! one!! My grandfather was one of the originals, and he knew I had it at a very early age. He was a gentle, loving man who let no one come between him and his horses but one woman. He gave these animals more credit than alomost any living man, and it didn't take long for my to see why. I can't trust my horses with my life and that of my small children, though I would trust nary a humane with them. thank you still for the read, I thouroughly enjoyed myself, and I too am a writer and a poet. Mostly of love, horse, farm, and country life oriented from every ages of aspect. I have ben published, and that's for fun, but I am eager to learn where more like me are. I know I'm just one soul with just one little voice, but...I loved your work, all of us can use some more hope. We are a dieing breed after all, and though I raise my children with the same gifts, I know with modernd technoligy and such, we won't be here for long. I feel that is so sad, as our race really needs somet! hing of value and goodhearted grit to hold onto! but thanks! again. sincerely,Tuffie, My business is the Soft Touch Corral! and I mean it.

Summary: Wonderful story...Accurate equine details
Review: I expected a horse story. What I received was a wonderful love story, with horses at the center. The characters are all developed in depth and portrayed with a depth of understanding that was surprising. Awesom book!

Summary: The best love story I have ever seen
Review: I have not read a story like that in years. I have to say it will probably be one of my all time favorites. I know that my friends and I are going to see the movie the day it comes out- May 15th. Who better to play the lead than Robert Redford himself. I really loved it.

Summary: Awesome movie with an awesome actor, director, producer.
Review: I haven't read the book "The Horse Whisperer",but I'm sure it's a wonderfully romantic book. I would like to read the book, but can a person rent it at a local Library? I saw the movie and thought that was an excellent show. I've heard that the novel is even better because it goes into more detail about each character and that the mom has an affair with expert horseman, and has an off spring from that relationship. After all is said and done she goes back to her husband. I also heard that the ending was very sad. I suppose in real life that's probably how it really is. As soon as I can I'm going to read "that book to find out for sure" Robert Redford is such an awesome actor with still a wonderful smile to melt ones heart, if your a girl of course! I think the show "The Horse Whisperer" was great. Mr Redford is such a creative person with a different view. Keep up the excellent entertainment Mr. Robert Redford!I'll be looking out for your next movie!

Summary: Worth it for the photos alone
Review: Just received the book and haven't had a chance to read it, but I was knocked out by the quality of the photographs. Beautiful all round and, sorry, but I have to say it, some heartstopping pix of the eternally stunning Mr R. A beautiful keepsake that seems to do justice to the movie.

Summary: Book is informative companion to a magnificent film
Review: Mr. Redford has adapted the plot of the novel into an entertaining and meaningful film. The essentials of the story -- serious tragedy, tenuous hope, realistic recovery, and responsible love -- play against a beautiful landscape, a delicate soundtrack, and an overall philosophy of simple heroism and intelligence. When you join an audience in a packed movie theatre for over 2 1/2 hours and hear absolute silence from everyone (including the children), you tend to get the impression that this is an involving, engaging, and splendid film. When the audience leaves the theatre commenting such things as "excellent" or "incredible" or "wonderful", you have to agree.

After having an opportunity to see the film, this companion book serves as an excellent memento. It expounds on the ideas and philosophies of the film. Further, its pages are crowded with high quality photos of the production, the movie, and the dramatic natural landscape. Gretel Erlich has written a charming and spritely text, easy to read from about age 14 upwards. This is not a book that describes the mechanics of making this film but one that presents the ideas behind the plot, both of the book and the screenplay, and the interrelationships between horse and human. As a learning experience, it describes the history of ranching and the evolution of the horse. Probably the only lack is that the author hasn't referred us to sources for additional reading. And there is the occasional obscure word more appropriate to academic publications than popular, particularly if one is aiming towards a young audience.

Summary: Glaring Flaw in Research for Book
Review: On first perusal, I was very impressed with the clear format, great photos and most of the content.

However, a point, Sam Neil is a New Zealand actor, like Jane Campion, not Australian. The authors may not have been aware there is more than one inhabited nation south of the equator.

If that is the one, if glaring, inaccuracy in the entire work, then, the authors have done a superb job.

Summary: exhilerating
Review: The book is well written, easy reading, and most of all enjoyable as a novel about four relationships that go through trials, pain, love, and emotional challenges that we as normal people have possibly experienced in our own lives. I guess this is what touched me the most about the book of which I read after seeing the wonderful movie first. The reading only made the story better, for one, the book itself caries your imagination further into the emotional depths of the characters of Annie, her daughter, Robert, Tom Booker, and the horse. Much Deeper. Once you begin to read this novel you will not want to put it down. The best book I have read in many years. Go for it, the book will bring out your own feelings, emotions, and caring for whatever or whoever your love lies with.
