Rating: Summary: I'm prejudiced, but... Review: Actually, I'm the author of this book. Of course I think it's wonderful! Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a way to get Amazon to discard the reiew I posted in 1997, which refers viewers to a web site that no longer exists. And worse, when I wrote that "review," there were no "stars" available, so the average rating comes out based on two positive reviews (mine and one other) that total only 4 stars. At any rate, The book continues to sell well, and I van only hope that your decision to purchase/not purchase will be based on domething other than the "average rating" listed. Also, FWIW, there is a Teacher's Edition of the book, with quizzes, tests, exercises, answer keys, etc., available from the publisher. It's printed in large format, suitable for phootcopying.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Overview Review: This book covers everything! It has chapters on the history of theater, the terminology of theater, acting, lighting, scenic design and painting, makeup, costumes, directing, and practically everything else. It's clear and easy to read and doesn't talk down to students. There are suggested exercises at the end of each chapter, but I've never used them. The reason I'm not giving 'Everything About Theater!' five stars is that, since it is an overview of everything, it doesn't go in to depth. Of course, it takes a lifetime to fully learn many things about theater. This book is a wonderful introduction!
