Review: There are 148 reviews to date for this book. Some of them praise it, some of them attack it, and a few are apathetic. All these responses only prove one thing. That Cobain's legacy, no matter what shape or form it takes on, will last forever. Every person who has written up a review has connected with this skinny blonde guy from Aberdeen. All of them have listened to his music and seen something in it, no matter what. Whether you think he was a "genius" or "a selfish drug addict" you have to admit that he still was something, something special that can't be replicated.

Summary: A Pretty Good Biography on Kurt.
Review: This journal is pretty interesting if you have been a Nirvana fan since the day. It tells you everything from his view since it is the journal he wrote. It says everything from his grocery list to his amps to how much it's going to cost to get to a gig. This book is very long and has loads of facts that you probably didn't know about leading up to his death. It's all in his handwriting so it's kind of hard to read some of the stuff which was a downside. I would just sit there for a minute trying to figure out what something said. But all in all there's also some very nice pictures that he drew that you'll be fascinated by. If I was you I would go out and pick this book up today. If you like Kurt Cobain just a little you'll appreciate this book.

Summary: This is book is beyond wonderful!!!!
Review: When I first read this book, i was riveted. To read his journals, to read his thoughts his own words, its very cool. I have long loved nirvanas music and its beatuful to read Kurts own thoughts. I love how its done in forensic fashion, straight out photograph of his journals. Very sterile, but then you know 100% that the journals are true. To me the journals book only further proves that Kurt Cobain was a wonderfully talented man, and that Courtney Love was his demise.

Summary: You know you want to read it
Review: Yes, there's the moral corundum of disrespecting a dead man's wishes and invading his privacy to make an easy buck off him, but Journals is an interesting read. I'm not a huge Nirvana fan, but I did get a voyeuristic kick out of perusing his handwritten rants, unsent letters, drafted lyrics, rambling diary entries, and assorted scribbles and doodles.

That is not say Journals is essential in understanding Kurt - his music was just as effective in that regard. There's nothing in this book to shed any new light on his complicated personality, though time will tell if that's just a result of Courtney Love's selectivity.

Journals is put together nicely and works as a really morbid coffee table book. But to ease your guilt of exploiting Kurt's death to make Courtney's wallet thicker, while still satiating your curiosity, I would recommend simply borrowing it from a library.
