Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I had expected this to be a good book, but it turned out to be some re-run from the other books about the golden age Hollywood, and the book was printed on bad quality paper. Also, who ever designed the book, and book cover, needs to do some improving. It looked unorganized, and uncreative. There's a little of everything, in this book. Too little of everything.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Indeed Review: This book begins with an interesting history of Hollywood - things that aren't often found in other popular books on Hollywood - the Lasky barn and the beginnings of silent pictures, Harold Lloyd, etc. But the book soon descends into a sort of historical fan magazine - not esoteric, "hidden" topics at all, but things you could find any day on the internet - stars in their homes, at parties, the nude pictures of Marilyn Monroe, etc. It spends too much time on genres - comedies, horror, musicals. Overall, it's very run-of-the-mill. If you can get this book cheap, I suppose it's worth the price for the pictures, but not much more.
Rating: Summary: A MUST HAVE for ANY film fan! Review: This book tells you in the introduction that there will never be a complete book of Hollywood, which is true, but this is one of those rare books that comes close! Every page of this 350 page book is crammed full of information and photographs that make it fascinating beginning to end! If you are a film fan, particularly a vintage film fan, BUY THIS BOOK! You will not be disappointed!
