Rating: Summary: Knows His Stuff! Review: I am actually taking a guitar course from the author and we are using this book and I am genuinly impressed with his knowledge and ability and the book itself. This book is very straight forward and easy to follow. Even the most inexperienced musician could learn the basics of the guitar with this book. I recommend it not only because it is useful, but also because the author is such a great guy!!
Rating: Summary: An indispensable tool for learning and improving guitar Review: I have been using this book for over 6 months to learn guitar, I really enjoy this book much more than any other I have tried to use. This book never gets old, it keeps the learning process fun and interesting. Many books only last for a very short period of time, they become boring and unchallenging. However The Contemporary Christian Guitarist reaches a wide range of levels ensuring a long lasting means to encourage growth in all aspects.
Rating: Summary: Knows His Stuff! Review: Michael Davis has filled a void for the guitarist who desires to honor God with music. Michael has tons of experience teaching students of all ages, and his extensive knowledge is readily apparent in this fine book. With the accompanying CD, the student can use the book with a "do-it-yourself" approach, but as always a teacher is best for the total beginner. Actually, the teacher will enjoy the book also, as the 2nd guitar parts (in the duets) are quite enjoyable to play. Sight reading is a valuable skill for the modern guitarist, and Michael walks the student through the process in a logical and easy to follow method. Before you know it, you're playing duets that are simple, but enjoyable. Of course it is impossible to cover all of the aspects of guitar playing in a single volume, but this book provides a great starting point for the aspiring guitarist. Whether your goal is to play solo guitar pieces, or to simply strum choruses, this book is a valuable and thorough resource for the serious and casual student of the guitar...
