Review: 'Starting Here, Starting Now' is by Richard Maltby Jr., who worked on (among other things) Miss Saigon and Closer Than Ever. It is also by David Shire who worked on Saturday Night Fever and Closer Than Ever. This book is great for anyone who is looking to broaden their knoweledge of musical theatre. One critic said about Starting Here, Starting Now- "Probably no other songwriters alive could provide a full evening of songs so generally unfamiliar and yet so delightful as these." There are 15 songs in the book, the best of which are Crossword Puzzle, I Don't Remember Christmas, I Hear Bells, I Think I May Want to Remember Today, A Little Bit Off, Today is the First Day of the Rest of my Life,and What About Today?. There are plenty of solo pieces in the book, which would be great for any audition. Every song in this book has witty, sensitive lyrics. Starting Here, Starting Now is GREAT!
