Rating: Summary: Dennis For President! Review: After seeing all the five star reviews, I feel cruel giving Dennis only four, but I'm basing it on two things: 1) the original rants went after tougher targets, whereas by Ranting Again, Dennis is relegated to such run of the mill topics as Bad Drivers and Parenthood. However, whether he's talking Politics or Parenting, nobody aims for the cranium like Dennis. Reason #2 for the slighted review is that the references are starting to repeat themselves too much. Pavorotti appears in this book as often as Holden Caufield appeared in "Catcher in the Rye". Still, one can hardly fault Dennis for trying to raise the stakes in a world of comedy where Sinbad sells books and Carrot Top is King. Dennis talks about what matters, and he sheds common sense light no matter what the subject. For me, Dennis would do a damn fine job leading our nation. He would disagree, but he makes more sense than any candidate I've heard from in ages. And you know what? I believe he means what he says. That's another one he's got over our leaders.
Rating: Summary: Okay but structured Review: Although Miller is at His satirical best; His structured delivery on every subject starts to get boring halfway through the book.He injects different celebrities in the same old spots and it becomes a mantra after awhile.'I dont want to rant but Dennis baby, find a new free form formula!"
Rating: Summary: Annoying, Very Annoying...But Not Funny Review: Dennis Miller is either a love him or hate him kind of guy. I find his commentary brilliant and incisive. If you love his brand of humor, I would snap this book up. If you don't like him...go ahead; give him a try again...you know you want to! This is one of the few books that I consistantly laugh out loud while reading, but it does give you pause to think. (Those who say smoking won't kill you are lying through the hole in their trachea) I find that social commentary delivered with a good dose of humor often is the best way to make ones point without seeming preachy. Miller is the King of this arena. He definitely understands the workings of American society, warts and all, and can absolutely hit the nail on the head every time. This is a book that manages to deftly walk the fine line of making you think AND entertaining you.
Rating: Summary: Pay Your Writers ROYALTIES Review: Dennis Miller takes a lot of credit for his rants despite the fact that he has a staff of writers. These rants are lifted from his HBO show and lost most of their intensity in printed form. It does give you a chance to test the integrity of many of his obscure references (calling Dice Clay's profanity "innocuous" is just one of many of Den-den's pretentious mistakes), but it's often hard to figure out what he's really ranting about. Dennis Miller is the most insecure man in showbiz and his constant barrage of obscure references is his way of trying to tell you that he's smarter, more informed and more righteous than anyone else in the world. As he ages, he's becoming more convinced of his own talent, despite all the mounting evidence that he's completely delusional. If you ask me, Bill Hicks said it best about Dennis Miller and all other former comics who've gone on to whore out their talents to the advertising industry: YOU DO A COMMERCIAL ENDORSEMENT, YOU'RE OFF THE ARTISTIC ROLL CALL FOREVER. End of story.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointed! Review: Hello, this book is an assortment of Rants from Dennis Miller's award winning show. This is sort of a sequel book and it is equaly as funny as the first. In the book there are some very funny and very serious thoughts shared by Miller. He has the right idea with some of the subject matter. All I can say is if you enjoy his show, and just want to remember waht he said, read this book. Well that is it. Good Day...
Rating: Summary: Funny Stuff Review: I admit that I am a recent convert to Dennis Miller's style of humor....after seeing and listening to him express his support of our troops I thought to myself "maybe I was a bit hasty in my judgement". So I bought this book and read it in one night laughing out loud numerous times at his take on contemporary life and his inventive similes. So if Dennis can forgive me for prejudging him I can forgive him for Monday Night football and continue to enjoy his other books.
Rating: Summary: Witty, Funny, and Brutally Truthful Review: I am a loyal fan of Dennis Miller Live on HBO, and never miss an episode. When I found out that he had written a book, I quickly got to my local book store and picked it up, Ranting Again. I wondered why it was Ranting AGAIN, and then I found out that he had written yet another book before that. I haven't yet picked up The Rants, but if it is anywhere near as funny as this book, I know I'll enjoy. This book was hiliarious, and Miller's language and vocabulary are always amusing. A great read for anyone in need of some humor and painful honesty. An Eye Opener!!!
Rating: Summary: Interesting and insightful. Review: I just finished reading this book and have to say that it (just like his previous one) was quite insightful and informative. Dennis Miller no doubt is very intelligent and has interesting views. I do admit that he does seem to be very cynical, but I think that most people are (there's nothing wrong with that). He discusses myriad topics in this book (everything from smoking to UFOs). I personally agree with a lot of what he talks about--he really makes you think. I've always thought that he's one of the best out there. This isn't one of my favorite books, but it no doubt is good and is a satisfying read. Give it a shot and you'll learn something.
Rating: Summary: My Second Review... Review: OK, I realize, by all of your negative reviews that my previous review that you just do not like it. Well I guess I can change the text a little bit to get on your guys' good side. The book is midly funny, compared to the "The Rants". It lacks that certain quality of a book that is humour. I guess it is a sequel book, it is a poor copy of the first. Dennis Miller is a funny/smart kinda guy, but this is just not as good. Remember, ideas change, that is why they are ideas and not written in stone. So after I did a second look, I found it was a poor attempt.
Rating: Summary: Not Bad - but not very good. Review: Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. It had some funny parts which were worthy of reading, despite the annoying parts. What do I mean when I say "annoying parts" ? stuff like "As for my computer skills, you know there hasn't bee anyone that ineffective at a keyboard since Susan Dey was in The Partridge Family.". I'm not sure who Susan Dey is, and I barely remember the Partridge Family. The point is, I think one of every 3-4 funny "bits" of the book refers to a name, or a show, or something. Nevermind that I don't know 80% of these names - it just stops being funny after the 3rd or 4th times. Anyway, Like I said before, it's funny despite the annoying parts.
