Rating: Summary: A door to the scene of contemporary popular culture Review: E. Wald's Narcocorrido is more than a good introduction to corrido culture. Wald also creates a forum from which we can read the perspectives on corridos and narcocorridos by a diverse group of corridistas, ranging from the most famous to those whose fame is limited to a very small geographic location. Narcocorridos is a type of travel narrative in which Wald's seeks out and encounters various corrido artists in key regions of Mexico. Here is what not to expect from this book: an overview of North America's war on drugs and its relation to narcocorridos and a discussion of the historical background of corridos in either Mexico or Latin America.
